Thanks to everyone who wished me Happy Birthday on Tuesday! ♥ ♥ ♥

Having a birthday that's during the week is always kind of bleh, because you can't really go out and do stuff on a Tuesday. Boo. I had a low-key birthday day, but I still had a pleasant day that made me happy, so that's always good. Maybe this weekend I'll be able to meet up with friends and have lunch or dinner or something. I get free desserts at TGI Friday's and Buffalo Wild Wings. :3

And I found out that the Inland Empire's First Annual Chocolate Festival is being held on April 21st. XDDDDDD! I think I'm going to make that my "birthday" event, even if it's like 2 weeks after my actual bday. It's worth it for chocolate and wine tastings. Yum~

Anyway, the birthday haul... which isn't very much since I don't get presents from anyone in my family, not even my parents. So let's make this Free Stuff (or heavily discounted) I Got For My Birthday instead.

-- Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Duo Set from Sephora
-- free truffle FUCK YOU TOO GODIVA
-- Buy One Get One Free ice cream from Coldstone (I got Birthday Cake Remix, of course, and Oreo Overload)
-- $25 Gamestop giftcard (okay, this is a promo from eRewards that I earned, but I'm totally counting it even if it's still being shipped to me)
-- 50% off some pretty crystals I've been lusting after at Michaels. TRUEFAX: they released a one day coupon valid only on my bday, so I went to see what they had since I was out already. I thought they'd sold out of the crystals I liked months ago and never restocked them (I've been checking diligently) but I managed to find ONE STRAND buried behind a bunch of other beads in a totally different section. It is fate. So I got them. :3
-- Wishes and kisses from friends... too many to count ♥

So since it's the holiday season, I shall pimp out a fic that I found last year but now have on my 'must read list' for the season.

Make The Yuletide Gay by [personal profile] aggybird.

It's a well-written ofic (sort of) with the main pairing being JackFrost/Rudy Kringle a.k.a. Santa's son.

Yes, you read that right. Santa's son.

Yes, I'm probably going to hell. But at least it will be warm. And the fic is full of gems like this:

"Man," Rudy says later over dessert, after he thinks about it for a while. "I could have been getting laid when I was fifteen. Thanks for totally cockblocking me with that hot guy, dad. Really. Awesome job."

Mr Kringle chokes on his custard, and Mrs Kringle has to slap him on the back.

Go read it and be holly and jolly and getting merry like Christmas!

Hello out there, denizens of LJ-land!

I know it's been awhile since my last really big update, so I've decided to catch everyone up on what's been going on with me IRL to keep me away from my beloved internets (besides all the damn outages and DDOS attacks LJ has been suffering). I've actually been pretty busy lately with...

Yes, I've actually started up a small business featuring my artisan jewelry. You can also find me on Etsy, though the selling portion of my shop isn't up yet. ♥ I've actually been making jewelry as a hobby and to keep busy, but after making a lot for friends and family (and myself), I was encouraged to expand and sell to everyone who wants one-of-a-kind, affordable pieces of jewelry. I'm pretty enthused about this, since it's something creative that I enjoy doing, and I certainly don't mind making money doing it.

I've also been accepted to the Inland Empire Women's Business Center's 'It's Your Time' Program. It's a non-profit program that runs about six months long and is specifically aimed at helping and encouraging women in my area (the Inland Empire) to be successful small business owners. I'm really happy to have been accepted into the program, even if my 'final' of writing a complete business plan (with financials!) is a bit daunting. But hopefully I'll be successful. And all of y'all can cross your fingers for me, because the person who has the best business plan wins a prize package worth... I think it's over $3000. All I know is that last year, the winner got an iPad as part of the prize package. :3 I could use something like that definitely.

Actually, I've been pretty busy attending my classes and networking and, of course, selling my jewelry every month at Riverside's Art Walk. Though, now I'm hoping to expand to other local art events and farmer's markets and the like.

And now for the shameless pimping:

All of my jewelry is for sale.

I'm also available for custom orders (just ask Pet and Aoi and K-chan, since I've made pieces for them). Please feel free to contact me through FB, Etsy, e-mail, or -- of course -- here on LJ if you'd like to purchase something or get custom jewelry made for you. The holiday season is approaching! So you should totally buy presents for everyone you know from me. :3

I've been thinking of a way to kickstart some funding for my business as well (buying supplies is pricey when you work with semi-precious gemstones), so I'm considering offering up a little promotion. I'm working on cute angel pendant necklaces for the holidays. They're made of freshwater pearl, antique silver wings and halos, with high quality crystal bodies, each individually handmade and hung from sterling silver plated chain. If you're interested in a necklace (or a smaller pair for earrings), drop me a line. I'll custom make an angel (or two) for you in your choice of color for $20. I already have some made for sale, so I'll be posting a couple pictures later on FB and here on LJ for everyone to see.

♥ ♥ ♥

Aaaaaaaaaaand to return the favor, since she already pimped me out, [personal profile] gunxshyed is making CHUBBY POTTERS for sale. They're absolutely adorable felt ornaments that are individually handmade for you. She's made Snape and Harry so far, with a Draco as a custom chubby. I think she's willing to make anyone you want, so you should totally hit her up for cuteness.

So was that pimping shameless enough, or should I have more blinking text?
windandwater: (Mistress Sera Says)
First, HAPPY PI DAY! Geeky holidays are some of the best holidays. ^^ So everyone get your 3.14 on!

Second, I was reminded last week by [personal profile] sukino that my birthday is fast approaching. A little under a month now. =___=;; I'm not quite sure how I feel about this. It's just another year older, but it doesn't really change anything about me except a number. Maybe I'm just being depressed because of the ongoing cold weather (woo S.A.D.) but I can't seem to muster up enough enthusiasm about my birthday like I usually do. Maybe that will change when it hits April, but I'm not sure.

Frankly, it'll just be the day I get older, I only get presents from my friends (my parents stopped giving me presents for my birthday and holidays a long time ago and my relatives barely remember when my birthday is) which are lovely, and I get free things from the places I have rewards cards for (free Godiva and Sephora stuff is not to be sneezed at). Maybe I'll just have a quiet birthday this year. I've had various conversations from friends about how I'm usually the one who does something big or goes somewhere on my birthday, while everyone else keeps things low-key. But right now I just feel "blah" about everything. Maybe I should be a bear and just hibernate until the warm weather comes.

Anyway, because I might as well try to cheer myself up by being ruthlessly materialistic, here is my birthday (and all-around holiday or whatever) wishlist.

Things I Want:

-- a job (probably not anything anyone can give me)
-- to win the lottery (ditto above)
-- a Vespa (third time's a charm)
-- handmade things, which includes fics and fanart
-- stuff from my Etsy Favorites (PROTIP: I've actually taken up jewelry-making as a bit of a hobby. I think it's fun, keeps me busy, and is very non-stressful. Plus, I like making pretty things. So a lot of the stuff on my Etsy faves are either supplies or jewelry kits that I'd like to make.)
-- stuff from my Amazon wishlist (this is where the PSP greedy materialism comes in)
-- nothing terrible to happen
-- Cadbury Creme Eggs (my bday is two weeks before Easter woo)
-- IDK some other things that I can't think of at the moment

There. I think I'm done wallowing in my own emo for the moment. Time to go do something useful. Or eat ice cream. Whatever.

This thread from [community profile] ontd_political has the absolute most hilarious comments ever. How can you not like a thread with gems like this:

Most people outside of the U.S. don't realize this, but the delegates of the Constitutional Convention were overwhelmingly composed of two prominent groups within early American society: zombies and vampires.

Ben Franklin, of course, was a werewolf.

And this:

I seriously think that everyone in the Tea Party thinks the Founding Fathers were like the Justice League or something, battling evil, tyranny and injustice everywhere they found it. The Founding Fathers were NOT a superhero team, completely infallible and always right. Although the thought of George Washington as Superman, Thomas Jefferson as Batman and Ben Franklin as the Flash is an amusing thought.

And, of course, this beautiful summation of history wherein it is explained how the Founding Fathers abolished slavery:

john adams and john hancock. see, they built a time mechine, and used to to lanch them selfs forwards in time and join forces with ab lincon after there time mechine exploded upon reentry. together, the trio hacked, slashed, shot and killed there way across the south, till they finaly had an epic duel with the forces of slavery in the captial of the confedates. john adams, an old man, was mortaly wounded, and lay dieing. then, albert enstine steped in. claiming that history must be repaired, he took adams and hancock, and transported them back to there own time, lieing adams upon his death bed.

then, with his work complate, slavery abolished, and the time line restored, enstine nodded with statsfaction, and went to pick up stephen hawking, for there own trip to the future...

Politics, comics, and time traveling zombie historical figures. Of course I love this stuff.

Okay, so I think I'm kind of in love with everything DJ Earworm does. And thanks to the highspeed internet in the library, I have downloaded many many songs to keep me happy.

In other, more important, news:

I shall be going to GameStop in a little bit and burning those giftcards I have to get the game. ^_____^ Don't expect to hear much from me while I roll around in happiness and frantically buttonmash for a week or something.

I might hit up the Cinnabon tomorrow. >_>;;

For those of you near a Ben&Jerry's, they're selling special $1 scoops of ice cream to celebrate one of the snowboarder's silver medals from the Olympics. The flavor you get is Hannah's Maple Blondie, since the snowboarder's name is Hannah.

Go forth and devour!

Do you see this fic?

It broke me. Not completely, of course. But it broke something in my brain and now stuff is rattling around pleasantly. Which is strange, because it's not like I haven't seen fics or RP where the keyblades are sentient. But still.

I don't need to be thinking about anthropomorphic Riku/Soul Eater fic. I don't.

... this song should also not be playing in the background while I'm reading.

Japanese Mochi Ice Cream recipe, for if you wanna take a stab at making it yourself.

Or you could be like me and buy your mochi ice cream from a grocery store. This brand is decent -- though nothing compares to mochi fresh from the shop -- though it gets points for availability. If a grocery store near you actually carries these, that is. I actually found them in the ice cream section of the Stater Brothers near my house.

The third option is being super fancy and ordering Bubbies mochi ice cream to be shipped to you. It's gourmet and super-expensive and from Hawaii though. But they're apparently one of the best mochi ice cream makers in the world.

I still prefer that little shop in Little Tokyo though. XP ♥

Oh, and have a recipe for Sea Salt ice cream, too. It came up during my search, so fear my google-fu.

Sony finally announced their new PS3 Slims. And not only that, they've knocked $100 off the price of PS3s. Ahhhh... this makes me feel good because I knew there had to be a price drop coming soon, just so Sony could stay competitive. That and they're probably gearing up for when Squeenix unleashes its fury with a bunch of new games.

Slowly but surely, I get closer and closer to actually owning a console to play games on.
windandwater: (Not Supposed To Be Here)
At this moment, I am rather blessing the fact that I was an awkward and ungainly child, as well as annoying and unattractive, especially during my middle school years. Oh, and not a boy.

Because one of my middle school teachers just pled guilty to 74 counts of child molestation.

I wasn't in his History class specifically (IIRC my history class would join up with his for projects and such), but I knew who he was because he was a Very Important Teacher. And his kids were in the same grade as me. Still, seeing this makes me really upset since he always seemed to be the 'cool' teacher that all the kids wanted to be on the good side of.

Unfortunately, looks like that good side has a bad side.

Surprise! Plants vs Zombies headed to more platforms.

I love playing the trial of this game, and I am seriously close to actually buying it for PC. But if they come out with a version for the DS, I will buy it instantly instead. This is such a great, cute game, and it would work perfectly with the touchscreen.

Getty Center, college evacuates due to LA fire.

That's my college! My undergrad! I went to Mount St. Mary's! Hopefully nothing bad happens. After all, my school is smack in the middle of Brentwood, and million-dollar-homes will have to burn if my college goes up. Lots of famous people have big houses there, so it tends to be well-protected.

Michael Jackson is dead. R.I.P.

No matter what you personally think of him, I still enjoyed his music while I was growing up. He was a great artist even if he touched little boys. And he died at 50, which is still young. For some reason, I always thought he'd live to be 100 or something.

And right after Farrah Fawcett died, too. Don't these things come in threes?

Courtesy of WalletPop, I give you yet another list of free things for you to take advantage of! All dealing with food!

Mars Corp is giving away 250,000 every Friday for a free candy bar. How is free chocolate not a good thing? Be careful though because there's reports that the servers have been crashing as people try to get their coupons.

♥ For the nurses on my flist, you can get a free Cinnabon during National Nurses Week, which is 5/6 through 5/12. Lucky you.

♥ And for the foodies and/or people who just like to cook get yourself some free recipe booklets. Most are downloadable!
windandwater: (LJ -- All Your Friends)
KFC is giving away free grilled chicken today!

It's to promote their new grilled chicken (as opposed to the traditional delicious fried stuff). You just go to a KFC today and ask for a piece of chicken. You don't even need a coupon. Though, while you're there, I really do recommend their mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. In fact, you should buy something to go with your free chicken. XD;;
windandwater: (blah blah blah by celest)
I've got links accumulating here that I've been wanting to pimp out, but I keep forgetting. XD;; So I might as well consolidate and put it all in one big post, right? Right!

♥ First of all, for the foodies on my flist (or wanna-be foodies like me), you can go here to sign up to recipe 8 free recipe booklets. I love recipes since I can make practically anything as long as I have a recipe to follow. There's a good selection of choices here, from bread baking recipes, to seafood, to cooking with wine. I signed up to get all of them. XD;;

♥ Now for a bit of humor... Uncomfortable Plot Summaries. Exactly what it says; plot summaries of a bunch of movies and books, in a very uncomfortable fashion. Some of my favorites include:

-- 300: Gays kill blacks.
-- Highlander: Elderly immigrant destroys property.
-- Harry Potter: Celebrity jock thinks rules don't apply to him, is right.
-- Lord of the Rings: Midget destroys stolen property.
-- The Golden Compass: Critique of Catholicism upstaged by polar bear fight.

XD;; Joss ends up on the list for pretty much everything he's ever done, too.

♥ Now, because everyone loves zombies and literature, have Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It's Pride and Prejudice, but with zombies! I BET YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING. I want to read this, if only for the opening line.

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains."

♥ This has been passed around, but I'll link it, too, in case anyone hasn't read it. Why Aren't People Commenting On My Post/Story/Whatever?

♥ Oh, and since we all love food around here, this is the perfect way to end this post: The Fandom Recipe Book. I still haven't downloaded it yet (because of my slow-ass connection), but everyone says it's really good.

... and now, time for lunch!

[ profile] girl_starfish, I must highly suggest Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure to you if you have a Nintendo DS. It's strange, how an elderly Britsh adventurer reminded me of you, and for no reason that I can figure out. Except maybe for this:

Fill your Super Meter a second time, and you'll have the option of triggering "Tea Time," which, as the name does not at all suggest, puts Hatsworth into a battle robot suit.

Yes, it's true. Louise, tea and giant robot suits remind me of you. I must also buy this game once I have the money to do so.

Pet called me to yell at me because the first thing she saw on my wishlist was a Vespa. THAT I REALLY DON'T EXPECT ANYONE TO BUY FOR ME.

In partnership with the Dress for Success nonprofit organization, here is a 30% off coupon for The Gap Inc.'s stores (that means The Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic). You're allowed to pass the coupon around and use it as many times as you like.

In addition, 5% of your purchase will be donated to Dress for Success, which provides interview suits, confidence boosts, and career development to low-income women in over 75 cities worldwide. The coupon is valid from November 13 (today) to November 16.

So you can shop, make things less expensive, and donate to a charity at the same time.

Ganked from [ profile] metaquotes, context here, and now with a wiki for all your iambic pentameter needs.

From William Shakespeare's play, Pulp Fiction A Slurry Tale...

J: My pardon; did I break thy concentration?
Continue! Ah, but now thy tongue is still.
Allow me then to offer a response.
Describe Marsellus Wallace to me, pray.
B: What?
J: What country dost thou hail from?
B: What?
J: How passing strange, for I have traveled far,
And never have I heard tell of this What.
What language speak they in the land of What?
B: What?
J: The Queen's own English, base knave, dost thou speak it?
B: Aye!
J: Then hearken to my words and answer them!
Describe to me Marsellus Wallace!
B: What?
JULES presses his knife to BRETT's throat
J: Speak 'What' again! Thou cur, cry 'What' again!
I dare thee utter 'What' again but once!
I dare thee twice and spit upon thy name!
Now, paint for me a portraiture in words,
If thou hast any in thy head but 'What',
Of Marsellus Wallace!
B: He is dark.
J: Aye, and what more?
B: His head is shaven bald.
J: Has he the semblance of a harlot?
B: What?
JULES strikes and BRETT cries out
J: Has he the semblance of a harlot?
B: Nay!
J: Then why didst thou attempt to bed him thus?
B: I did not!
J: Aye, thou didst! O, aye, thou didst!
Thou hoped to rape him like a chattel whore,
And sooth, Lord Wallace is displeased to bed
With anyone but she to whom he wed.

Who's interested in going to an election night party? K-chan? Pet? People in the area?

Aoi and I managed to (at the last minute) go to The Winery on the last night of the debates and it was pretty fun. The atmosphere was very laid-back and not-scary (no fistfights over politics yay). And the wine was very delicious by the glass (and either $12 a bottle for fruit wines or $15 for other traditional varieties). We were told that they're gonna have a thing on election night, too, so did you guys want to go?

I'm not sure if you can go though, K-chan, since I don't know your schedule. ;__; It would only be for a few hours on that Tuesday night. And I don't know yours either, Pet.

But Aoi's brother said he might be interested in going, and I told my cousin with the big you-knows and she said she's interested and might bring her boyfriend. And if Jason comes, he doesn't drink, so there would be a designated driver. >_>;;

For the Pokemon fans on my flist (and I know you're out there), Toys-R-Us is having another Pokemon download day. You'll be able to pickup a free Dragonite! Pokémon Diamond and Peral gamers can pick up their Dragonite's between 12pm and 4pm on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of November at Toys-R-Us stores.

I know you're all excited.

And for even more geekery, yes, I will have to get my hands on Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades. Just the game itself, since I already have the guitar grip.

Because the full track list just came out and I think it's kind of awesome.

T__T My voice isn't high-pitched enough to sing that song properly.

And Gaia finally came out with its MMO, the ever-elusive and near-legendary "Battle System"!! AFTER FIVE YEARS OF PROMISES IT IS FINALLY HERE.

And it's called zOMG!!!

This was made by the same guy who did Dead Fantasy I and Dead Fantasy II, so you know it's good. Haloid is a crossover of Halo and Metroid (if you couldn't tell), so Master Chief vs. Samus Aran is a go.

It totally gets fanservice-y at the end though, because... well, a fanboy made this. And Samus has a Zero Suit form. :P

Lies. It gets fanservice-y halfway through once Samus goes Zero Suit. But it's even more fanservice-y at the end. And after the credits, that is so much fanservice that I am quite embarrassed for all fanboys everywhere.

But the animation is very good!

A really nifty flash game where the point isn't to live, but to die. You're a salaryman who needs to off himself. Some of the puzzles are really tricky, but I found the ones that were the hardest were the ones that needed a certain timing to get right. Having a touchpad on my laptop instead of a full mouse didn't help either.

But I made it through!

Still snotty, but I'm getting better. Slowly. I can only judge because I can tell that I'm blowing my nose significantly less than last week. Maybe I won't rip through this third box of tissues after all. Maybe that was a bit TMI.

Unrelated to my snottiness, I've joined The Backloggery. It's a pretty nifty site where you can keep track of your game collection, and let people know what you're currently playing and where you are. My DS collection is quite small at the moment (and it's the only gaming system I have at the moment besides my laptop), but that's mostly because the games I really want to get haven't been released yet. And I don't have any money.

If you join, be sure to tell me, so I can add you to my friends list and stalk you. ^^

In the absence of anything interesting to babble about (because my life is horrible monotony and dullness and emo currently), I give you Nintendo's list of release dates for Nintendo DS games. There's a bunch of interesting stuff there that I've already put on my wishlist of games to buy (when I have monies, of course).

In no particular order, the games I want to get my greedy little hands on are:

-- Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades (I KNEW they weren't going to waste the guitar grip and were going to release more GH games for DS!)
-- Shaun the Sheep (looks interesting since it's from the guy who made Wallace&Gromit, but I will wait for reviews/info first)
-- Puzzle Quest: Galatrix (who doesn't love playing Bejeweled?)
-- Spore Creatures (also interesting though I'll wait for more info/reviews first)
-- Elebits: The Adventures of Kai & Zero (looks supercute, will wait)
-- Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon (I like the original Rune Factory, and in this one you get options to play either a girl or boy, then it goes on to the next generation a.k.a. you play your kid)
-- Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What to Eat? (I like the idea of a portable cookbook, though I would wait to buy this one)
-- Big Bang Mini (looks like a fun puzzle-ish/arcade-ish game, and who doesn't like fireworks? Will wait first though)
-- Final Fantasy IV (DEFINITELY WILL WAIT FOR REVIEWS; I want to play this, but I heard the gameplay would be SUPER hard. T_T)
-- Away: Shuffle Dungeon (not announced yet since it's still in development, but it's a dungeon crawler with extras thrown in)
-- Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise (not announced/still in development, but I happen to like the God-game kind of things)

As you can see, there's a lot of games that I want but very few that I'd snatch up immediately. I prefer to wait and get more info and read reviews about a game... especially if it's going to be on the higher end of the price scale.

... and yes, I'm still shameless. Click my egg.
