Now, I'm rusty on my Tolkien, and haven't read The Silmarillion yet, but I know enough about the history of Middle Earth to know that an elf in the Third Age (or probably any other after the First) wouldn't murder another elf. Especially not one like Elrond.

Can we say "Kinslaying", fantwit?

... I thought the Kinslayings all happened in the First Age? Or maybe into the Second?

You really haven't read the Silmarillion.

I will grant you, though, that all of the elves that were prone to killing each other off... well, did so, leaving only the non-murderous elves behind by the time you get to the third age. XD

YOU DELETER.

And anyway, I know that the elves did start killing each other off, which the Valar Said Was Very Bad And Thus Smote Them And Took Out Numenor Too. But I assumed that elves murdering each other wasn't a common thing (Kinslaying aside). I mean, elves die when they're raped... when they murder, they get kicked out of Valinor forever.

Not forever. Galadriel gets to go back and she did a bit of killing in her time.

Well, I thought it was implied that Galadriel was able to go to the West because she rejected/didn't take the One Ring from Frodo (she was kicked out in the first place because of her pride and the killings) and for helping bring down Sauron. So she got pardoned, but I forget if she was able to go to Valinor itself, or if she could only go as far as Tol Eressea.

That's news to me, or I may have missed that part, but she left Valinor way before any of the killing or kinslaying went on. She and the rest of the noldor were all given the option to go back after the Valar kicked the hell out of Morgoth, but a bunch of them chose to stay in Middle-Earth because they still loved it there. If there was anything more to it, I don't remember it.

I mean, hell, they pardoned SAURON at first, and he did a lot more than just a few elf-on-elf killings.

From what I remember, Galadriel's killings were mostly done in defense, then her and Celeborn fled East to Middle Earth. Then was the War of Wrath, and then the pardon for elves to come back to the West, but Galadriel refused the pardon out of pride. Could be wrong though.

Yeah, they pardoned Morgoth, too. But I guess it's two strikes and you're out. XP

Well, yeah, but that doesn't mean they won't do it.

Well, yeah. But by the Third Age it's somewhat unlikely, and by the Fourth Age there aren't any elves left.

Orcs aren't corrupted elves. Well, Tolkien had mentions of that being how orcs were first created, then he changed his mind about it and such. But, orcs ARE supposed to be twisted mockeries of elves, made by Morgoth.

And in the First Age, they did kill each other, hence the Kinslayings.

Link for the fic? Ack. It's somewhere on FF.Net. I was just scrolling through and read the summary of an elf murdering (or trying to murder) Elrond for Vilya. And then my brain screamed.
