I told [livejournal.com profile] askerian that she could write the Duo POVs for the "2 AM/4 AM" universe, while I took the Heero POVs, but this fic-shaped thing demanded to be written. Once again, I was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] zerotwofan and a certain very lovely pic she posted in her LJ awhile back.

*glares* She was politely evil and fed my bunnies, so in retaliation, I shall angst the hell out of her and make her cry.

Title: Still -- Part of the 2 A.M./4 A.M. Universe
Status: Unbetaed

Duo sat still, barely daring to breathe.

In any other situation, his stillness would have been unnatural, but these moments were so rare and delicate that Duo feared breaking the spell and all the hard work with a careless movement. So, Duo sat perfectly still -- his weight distributed evenly over his legs as he sat on them -- the bed and the position balanced to hold his weight for however long this would last. He sucked in a breath as he felt his hair shift over his shoulders, Heero's fingers patiently combing through them.

Duo could almost imagine the way Heero looked; maybe he would look the way he had so many mornings before... clad only in his unbuttoned Preventer's shirt, sitting behind Duo and brushing out his hair to weave it into a tidy braid. And then, Duo would whirl around, catching Heero's lips in a kiss that would build up steam until the Japanese man would fondly remind him that they couldn't be late again, so would Duo get dressed already?

There was a tiny pull at his scalp, but Duo didn't wince. Instead he bit his lip in restrained emotion, not daring to move. Heero had trouble, sometimes, touching Duo's hair. Usually his touches would feel like a chill breeze over his nape or through his long bangs. For Heero to be able to pull... to tug... to make Duo feel more than a chill touch... Duo bit his bottom lip harder. He didn't make any noise, didn't shift, didn't change the pattern of his breathing.

At least, he didn't until he felt a shift behind him. Until he felt his loose, untangled hair fall gently against his back, unnaturally cool from Heero's touch. Duo bowed his head in acknowledgment, and heard Heero's soft sigh near his ear.

/Untangled now. Are you happy?/

Duo had to swallow hard past the sudden lump in his throat. "Yes... thank you so much, Heero."

/I enjoy it. I'm just... going to.../

"I know." Duo still didn't dare to turn around. He knew what this simple action would cost Heero. A half day's concentration and materiality for the stolen moments spent untangling Duo's hair with his fingers, because Heero still wasn't strong enough to lift a brush. "I know this takes a lot out of you. I didn't--"

/Stop that. I enjoyed it. You enjoyed it. I'll just rest until dinner./

Callused hands clenched at the bedspread for a moment, before Duo smoothed the wrinkles flat again. "Okay. You can help me with that new recipe."

Heero didn't answer, but Duo felt the slight touch of ice against his cheek, and the flash of an image -- like a memory -- from the corner of his eye. Turning finally, the young man looked down at the bed, moving one hand to hover over the slight indentation in the pillows behind him.

Biting his lip again, Duo curled up over the cold spot on the bed, and took comfort in it.

*hands you a tissue* #^^# Thanks for the compliment. Though, I think it only SEEMS like I write better because I don't write very often. It makes people go: "Ooh! Sera actually got off her lazy ass and wrote something! *shock* *awe*"

That was so sweet, even if it was sad. My heart breaks for them both, but something is better than nothing, isn't it?

I wonder what Jurty would think of this story, and how it fits her picture? ^_~

*loves you*

XD I don't think Heero can work out to solve his endurance problem. *giggles*

But yes, I'm very proud of that last line. You KNOW there's going to be moments like this between them. T__T

*huggles Duo* Don't worry Duo! You'll find the Philosopher's Stone and give Heero back his body soon!

...*coughs* But still, it was good. I don't think you overdid Duo's reflections, it was interspersed nicely with the little physical details about what's happening to paint an overall sad, touching picture of what's happening. A very nice ficlet. *pets it*

Wow, look, I reply to you on your own LJ for a change. I'm here courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] askerian's fic pimping.

I don't really know why I ever started reading this little arc thing, because dead Heero should have sent me screaming in the other direction, with ears covered and "la la la la"ing all the way...

Ahem. ANYWAY.

I thought it was very poignant...the description of Heero's touches, the way Duo suffered through the little pains of the untangling just for the joy of knowing he could "feel" Heero in that way. *nods*

Hmmm I'm getting long winded here. The implied things are what I liked the most. Heero's voice trailing off, indicating how much the action had tired him.

Yes, the ending line, very touching. I think what left the biggest impression on me...was the impression on the pillow, that Heero was there enough to touch Duo and to leave an indentation.

Now the Big Question - did it make me cry? *cringe* No? It did, though, twist at my heart, so kudos for that. Does that count?

I'll stop now before the review becomes longer than your fic shaped thing.

*hugs* I'm glad you decided to try a bit of alternative (as in dead main characters) reading. *^^* Lots have people have told me that they would NEVER read a deathfic, but BWAHAHAHA... I rock in making people like strange things.

Anyway... *cough* ... I'm glad that I didn't totally traumatize you and you're not out for my blood for killing Heero. Asuka and I are still developing this universe (though I've managed to shove most of the heavy fic-writing onto her), but I suppose it's one of my pet projects. The angst between Heero and Duo just never ends. :D

Thanks for such a nice review. I love long ones, so don't worry about it. ^^

I'm glad I glanced at your memories. This would have been a shame to miss.

...you realize I'm now OBSESSED COMPLETELY AND FULLY with the 2AM/4AM universe... right?

Just thought I'd make sure... ^.^;;;
