... please to stop insisting that "Kyrie" by Mr. Mister (or actually, that remake that came out pfff whatever the original is better) is an inspirational religious song. Because, you know, it's not. Yes, it can be inspirational. Yes, it does have "kyrie eleison" as a significant part of the chorus. But that's mostly because it sounds better than: "Lord, have mercy."

Seriously, which sounds better to you:

Kyrie eleison, down the road that I must travel
Kyrie eleison, through the darkness of the night
Kyrie eleison, where I'm going will you follow?
Kyrie elesion on a highway in the light

Or:

Lord, have mercy, down the road that I must travel
Lord, have mercy, through the darkness of the night
Lord, have mercy, where I'm going will you follow?
Lord, have mercy on a highway in the light

...?

See? "Lord, have mercy" totally kills the rhythm. "Kyrie eleison" also sounds cooler and more mysterious, and for YEARS people have been mis-hearing this song and thinking the lyrics are, "Carry a laser." Not inspirational or religious at all.

Also, please remember, children, that this song was originally written in the 80s, which pretty much strips almost any song of credibility in being anything other than catchy and pop (with synthesizers and big hair). Mr. Mister also wrote this song while they were on tour with Adam Ant, about a year before it was finally recorded and became a hit. Let me repeat that. While they were on tour with Adam Ant of "Goody Two Shoes" fame.

That has been your history lesson for the day. Now me and my walker are going to clean our dentures, then it's time for Matlock and Murder, She Wrote.
