windandwater: (Dear LJ)
[personal profile] windandwater
Oh my god, they actually did it. I KNEW SixApart was planning on jumping ship like a bunch of rats, but I didn't think it would be this soon. But LJ is now sold to a new company. SUP, which is based in Russia.

I just... have no words. Except for:

IN LIVEJOURNAL, SOVIET RUSSIA DOES YOU.

EDIT (what, already?)...

Courtesy one of the comments in that news post, here's some handy phrases we'll need in the future.

LOL = лол
OMG = омг
WTF = втф
shit = шит
sucks = сакс
bear surprise = превед медвед (important)
tl;dr = ниасилил многа букав

I've seen one icon already, but I'm sure there will be more to come. I'm, personally, waiting for the Fandom Wank post.

It will be truly something to snark over. Apparently we're all going to be sent to gulags (http://news.livejournal.com/104520.html?thread=65934408#t65934408) soon is my personal fave. XD

What's worrisome is that SUP owns Livejournal.ru, and apparently the Russian LJers don't like them very much.

But, god. Gulags. XD!

Know about SUP and LJ.ru? It's stuff that I've picked up from here and there. And I read an article once about how Russian businesses are very corrupt politically-tied, and many of them buy up sources of press in order to control what's being said. LJ has always been used in Russia for blogging and free speech, and especially political rhetoric because it's one of the few blogging sites that isn't monitored by the Kremlin.

Which is more frightening, SUP owning LJ or the jacket David Hasselhoff wore when the Berlin Wall fell?

"tl;dr" means "too long; didn't read". They use it alot on places like Fandom Wank, where most of the epic lulz is full of posts that are hilariously stupid, but too long to read (especially when you get the gist in the first sentence).

... and I have no idea what bear surprise is. :/

Russian Jokes

From: [identity profile] okamikaze.livejournal.com
Uhhhh.... I'm Russian....actually...I guess I'm more American than Russian by now...but still.....

It's not that cold in Russia...really...there are even subtropical regions. Yes we have Siberia, but like .0001% of the population lives there 'cuz it's inhabitable. Russia is not Socialist, and hasn't been for 16 years, and it's actually improved a lot since. Yes, everything is very corrupt. No, the majority of people don't actually wear those hats.

The fact that Russian LJers took American acronyms and used the with Russian letters amuses me greatly. JL is about to be heavily monitored T___T and I'd appreciate not reading heavily anti-Russian posts, because it's not really Russia's fault, LJ sold itself to SUP like a whore, but my wish shall never be granted because people are stereotypical and prejudiced like that. T___T
