windandwater: (Trickster -- Not the Wife)

Hehehe... hopefully more people are going to start playing Trickster, so this is a general interaction post for everyone to mingle in. I know [livejournal.com profile] girl_starfish just started a Fox and [livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko is considering a Lion. I don't know too much about Sense-types, but I know [livejournal.com profile] moffit and [livejournal.com profile] aoi do. Though, I suppose I can talk about all classes generally.

GO, PEOPLE. MINGLE AND GIVE TIPS.

In other Trickster news, I only have 79 Sparklers. T__T I need 100 for the Fairy's Fireworks. AOI GET ONLINE AND GIVE ME YOUR SPARKLERS SO I CAN FINISH. I managed to get on for like ten minutes earlier before I got kicked, and traded in the rest of my Certificates for 2 more items. I have either 4 or 6 Certificates left. Bleh. I was hoping to get at least two full sets of the items.

... and everyone is leveling higher than me. T__T You'll all be level 100 soon, and I'm not even 85 yet.

Easy way to gain lvls? Turn in haros & stuff for the Tango quest. They're both 80+ quests, and how Dailan jumped like, 7 lvls in two days, and he only turned in two rounds of the haros. >.>

Ooh, cool. I still need to finish all the quests in Caballa, then I was gonna grind at Swamp Sharks and Arachnes.

BTW, have you been TMgrinding for the PvP Tournament? Apparently, that's what the Dragons have been doing.

Uh, I thought the tourney was over? I wasn't on any of the lists.

Ok, it's obviously still going, but I'm still not on the lists. And I stopped doing things on Thero mostly, because even continuous drilling got him 2 1/2 lvls.

Yeah, they're still announcing heats and such, so hopefully you'll show up soon.

But anyway, you know when you die, you lose some EXP? Dying does NOT affect TMexp. So lots of Dark Dragons in the tournament have been TMgrinding to get the most skills they can while still staying in their bracket. Basically, you just grind and kill, and once you get near 99%, suicide yourself back down below 50%. Lather, rinse, repeat. That way, you stay in your bracket, but you have the TM for skills.

Okay, so, um, assume I know nothing about Trickster, despite reading your posts for months. :F Is a Lion a good character to start out with? They look cute... And they have guns...!

From the description on the wiki they sound kind of like a rogue/hunter class...

I have... sort of anomaly lions? Usually people go pure AC (accuracy) & use guns. Instead, I have a pure LK (luck) and pure DA (detect ability), and use knives for more DA. Lions have a skill called Stone Strike, which does a lot of damage on its own, and even more with more DA. Another skill, Sixth Sense, raises your DA even more for a short period of time.

The LK one is for compounding, where more LK is supposed to get you better results. All that LK also means monsters miss Thero more often, and he crits them most of the time. The DA one I wanted to do even more damage with, but since he has little LK, Seregil tends to get killed at a sneeze if he doesn't run his little tail off. (Hopefully finally giving him a better shield will help this.)

I've noticed that when you start out as a gunner you seem weak, but if you go back later and kill the monsters you started with? Total pwnage. That dinky starfish that bitchslapped you is now blown out of the water. Being a gunner also gives you more of a running start in case you smack something that can smoosh you. I think if I had a 4th character slot, I'd make a 3rd lion that's all AC.

I've found it handy to know how to use guns and be able to switch to knives when you run out of bullets. If you make a lion, I'll let you borrow what Thero and Seregil have outgrown. I even have some spare guns. ^^

Gunner lions are considered KS (kill stealers) because once you get Double Shot and Quick Reload, Lions become pretty much invincible OHKO fiends. Getting up to the level where you pwn everything is a little trying (I think either lvl 40, or 2nd Job completely), but after that, it's a killfest.

Their only drawback is that most people go 4141 on their builds (4 Power, 1 Magic, 4 Sense, 1 Charm), which means that while they're maximizing their AC (a Power stat), they have terrible HP (a Charm stat). But if you can kill everything before it even comes close to you, then having low HP isn't so much of a problem. XD

Oh oh oh, and some people say that Lions are a bad character to start with unless you're funded (have another higher-level character to supply money), because once a Lion starts using a gun, they also have to start buying bullets. There's a number of guides about this. I know Aoi-chan just did melee for her first 20 levels or so, and didn't get her gun until she could have her gun AND her first gun skill.

Yet another reason why I don't like using guns. I don't like having to pay for bullets, or have them taking up weight better used for something else.

And I've been KSed by mages more than lions. :P

Yeah, but as a Sense, you have naturally high WT. Unlike certain fat Dragons.

And yes... both Lions and Dragons KS alot. XD! But I've been KS-ed by more Lions. Goddamn all the monsters for being gunweak.

It's really up to you. Aoi-chan doesn't have any problems and now she makes tons of money killing monsters. It's kind of difficult for all classes when they first start (except for maybe pure AP Power types), but the Episode 0 quest makes it pretty easy to level to 20 when you do it.

Here's a good guide on Gunner Lions. ^^ I think this is one of the ones Aoi and Moff followed.

If you have no problem setting up shop overnight, or during the day when you're at work, you'll have no problem collecting monies. Drop by me though, and I'll toss you some to start out with, if you want. I've been able to make 1-3m a week that goes in the bank, because every time any of my characters gets 1m on them, I bank it.

Lions can carry much more than other classes, too, which means toting even more stuff to sell. >D

... if you really have your heart set on playing a character with a gun, I definitely wouldn't let the lack of funding/etc. deter you from starting one. All classes (unless you're a 4114 pure AP power/charm type), go through 40-50 lvls of suck to start out with. If you're like me, the fact that you have a character with a *gun!* might make the suck-age a little bit more bearable. xD Besides, no matter what character you end up choosing, we'll all be around to help as much as we can (we like helping!). So choose the character you think you'll enjoy the most. You can always start another one if it doesn't turn out the way you want it to be. ^^

That being said, if you do decide to go for a gunner lion, I would seriously consider staying away from a 4141 build. It's actually only popular with players who have already had experience playing with a gunner Lion/another character, and most of them would probably not recommend it for a first time player. Without a shield (you can't equip a gun and a shield at the same time) that 1 in Charm will really, *really* hurt... and since all your bonus points should be going into AC(the only Power stat a gunner needs), you shouldn't have a problem with power growth even with a 2 or 1 in Power. I have a 1144 gunner lion and have absolutely no problems killing things. It's also much easier to compound more AC into your equips than more HP, DP, and HV (the three Charm stats). :3

Mikke, if you come back and I'm asleep, you'll need this to help you do Episode 0 on Trickster.

http://www.mytrickster.net/forum/quest-guides/44107-episode-0-guide.html

Just make sure to make your character on one of the channels (Ruby or Pearl) on Jewelia server. ^^ Jewelia is the main server, and all of us usually play on Pearl.

And this is on dual booting Mac OS X and XP.

Oh and here's a guide on choosing a character. ^^ Then you can find build/skill guides in the respective guide sections to help you once you choose what you wanna be.
