Just read this week's issue of Time Magazine, and there is a somewhat serious article in it on lolcats and their acceptance and impact on mainstream society.

That's it, no more cat macros in my LJ!

Lies.

Time to finish getting ready for the party.

I'm glad you read it as well, because it actually irritated me. The guy was essentially saying that underground things become popular, are brought into the mainstream, and then are spit out to be forgotten once thye lost their niftiness...no shit. Did he fail to realize that this is actually the pattern for pretty much all of American (and probably other) cultures? While he is absolutely right, I just kinda wonder what his point is. He's stating the obvious, and then ...what? I didn't really get it.
So, since you have also read it, would you be willing to explain what I'm missing? Cause I am terribly lost on what exactly his point was. If, however, he was just pointing out how the popular-culture machine works, then I got it.

I really think he WAS stating the obvious. But then again, there's lots of people out there who don't spend the time on the internet to become familiar with the 'fads' like lolcats and "in ur base" or even "somebody set us up the bomb". Some people just use the internet for email and basic things, and don't even know about Something Awful or 4chan!
