Heero stared at the toddler currently hugging his knee. The toddler stared back, not giving an inch.
"Pick him up, Heero," Hilde advised. Heero glared at her, and then went back to staring unhappily at the child.
The brat burst out laughing. "Up! Up!"
"Hilde..." Heero grumbled. He didn't mind the children Hilde had asked (badgered) him to father. Some days he was even rather curious about their development. ... He might also have started a trust fund for them. Maybe. And of course he would severely maim anyone who even thought about doing anything bad to them. But direct interaction hadn't been part of the arrangement, damn it.
"Aw... You won't break him by picking him up, I promise."
Heero retorted stiffly, "I'm not afraid of picking him up. I don't want to pick him up."
She shrugged, gave him a disbelieving look. "Okay. As long as you hold up your pants when he starts climbing your leg."
"...What?"
Shawn grinned and tucked his chubby fingers in one of Heero's pocket, heaving himself up like a little monkey. Heero stared in disbelief a second too long, and almost ended up with his pants around his knees. The only solution seemed to be to pick up the brat, which he did, gingerly. He wasn't sure how he was supposed to hold him; but then the second the kid was in his arms he started trying to climb on his head.
"Hilde--"
"Whoops, Shizuka is awake, I'll be right back!" she sang, and disappeared.
Heero was tempted to curse, but two weeks after Wufei's visit, Shawn was still blurting out Chinese imprecations with great delectation.
From the carpet, where he lay in a big furry lump of burnished fur, Duo gave him a lolling lion-grin, and twitched his tail out of reach of a fuzzy wolf cub on the prowl.
Heero:Duo, get that out of you mouth. Duo:*sucking on Pookie tentacle.*But it feels and tastes great! Pookie:*Purrs,oozes, and makes tentacle throb.* Heero:You don't know where that's been. Duo:Yes, I do. *grins and keeps sucking* Heero:*blushes*
