The dreaded Treasure Trooper post

As I stated before, I joined Treasure Trooper roughly a month ago, after
moffit had pimped it and actually got a check from them. Since someone I knew actually got money from this, and the posts on the forum there seem pretty legit and stuf, I decided to try it out myself.
I've been mincing on writing this review/FAQ-type thingy, but since it's a lazy Saturday and it's hot, I figured what the hell. Also, I finally got over the $20 mark (more info on this later), so I should be getting my check sometime next month (since I missed the deadline for this one).
So, here we go... Treasure Trooper, the Good, the Bad, and the Mindless.
Treasure Trooper, if you don't already know, is a site that gives you money (real money, as in they send you a check you can cash) for doing various things. Most of these things revolve around three main actions: Cash Shopping, Cash Surveys, and Cash Offers. There's a fairly decent guide to all things Treasure Trooper here, but I'll go over some main points anyway.
Cash Shopping: Is basically like "cash back" on purchases. Treasure Trooper has a list of affliated stores that, if you purchase something from them, you get a certain percentage of your purchase back in your Treasure Trooper account. For example, shopping at Best Buy gets you 1% of your purchase in your account. Apple iTunes gets you 2.5%. The stores are listed and categorized for easier browsing, and the percentage back you get is clearly marked.
Cash Shopping is the fastest way to earn money of Treasure Trooper, since you get something back for stuff you were already going to buy. But, of course, you also have to spend money to get those Treasure Trooper rewards back. :P I haven't done this myself, but I can see the appeal.
Tips for Cash Shopping
-- For the love of god, don't buy crap online just for the Treasure Trooper money back. If you're already going to buy something, that's fine. But I can't believe how many people buy junk just for 1% back. >_O;;
-- It is a good idea to use pre-paid credit cards/gift cards if you're wary of getting hacked or scammed, etc.
-- The money from Cash Shopping takes longer to process through the system so you get credit. I've seen some wankery about people not getting credited as well, but it doesn't seem common to me.
Cash Surveys: This section is pretty straightforward. You earn $0.75 for every Daily Survey you take (you can take the Daily Survey only once a day). However, you must "qualify" for the survey to earn that money. Basically, this is opinion/data mining for companies. You enter the survey portion (in a new window) and answer various questions (like age, zip code, ethnicity, education level, etc.) as preliminary weeding out, then they start asking about shopping habits or recent purchases. If you get far enough (some questions are repeated as you are cycled through the tons of surveys they have to find one you qualify for), you will sometimes be asked to go to a "partner's site" to continue a survey.
This is good! If you can finish a survey (I like the ones about my grocery shopping habits, or whether I shop at certain stores, or the ones with advertising or commercials), you will be told when you are done, and at the end of everything, you will hit a green Treasure Trooper page that tells you whether you qualified or not for the $0.75.
The only problem with this is that the surveys can be tedious and boring (and sometimes long). But if you go with it (I've gotten Zen about the whole process and have memorized my answers to the most common questions), you can get $0.75 every day.
Tips for Cash Surveys
-- You will often be asked if "you or a member of your household" works for a certain type of industry (usually a list with ticky boxes). You shouldn't lie, but if you can answer "None of the Above", you'll get more surveys. The companies don't want the opinions of people in Marketing, etc. who would know what they're doing. It's like how trial lawyers don't want other lawyers in the jury. :P
-- Until you hit the green Treasure Trooper page that says whether you qualified or not, KEEP GOING THROUGH THE SURVEY. You do NOT earn money until you hit that green page.
-- If you are the "primary decision maker" for things, you will get more surveys. This is because you're the one spending the money.
-- Expect to get the same questions over and over. And get used to typing in your age, sex, race, education level, and household income (before taxes).
-- ... on one survey I lied and said I had a dog. I used to have a dog. I answered the questions based on past experiences. >_>;; But I qualified for the survey!
-- After taking enough surveys, you'll see patterns and be able to tell "how to answer" to get in and qualify. Not that I'm saying you should lie on these things but... well... I did used to have a dog. >_>;;
Cash Offers: This is the "meat" of Treasure Troopers. You get paid a varying amount (from $0.50 to $40 for accepting and signing up for various offers. There is even a whole section of "Free Offers", which is stuff you can sign up for and not have to pay anything to do it. "Free Offers" is mostly stuff like you see on banner ads, where they tell you that you can get a 'FREE XBOX 360/PS3/RAZR/ETC ETC ETC' if you give them your e-mail. Yes, it's kinda scammy and hardly anyone ever actually gets the cool items, but there's ways around that so that you can earn your Treasure Trooper money. :3
The other Cash Offers give you money for doing stuff like signing up for credit cards, Vonage, dating sites, etc. This is stuff you usually have to pay for (keep those prepaid credit cards handy if you do these).
Cash Offers Tips
-- FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET A NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS JUST FOR TREASURE TROOPER. You are going to get spammed to hell and back doing the Free Offers, so a nice new e-mail address jst for this stuff is NECESSARY.
-- This is the best guide to Free Offers and what 'intent to participate' really means.
-- Don't do more than 5 Free Offers a day, since the companies that run this are usually the same. Too many offers at once means you might not get credited because your info is in the system. It is also reccommended that you clear your cache/cookies between offers.
-- With the Free Offers, put in your e-mail and address and do the little 'survey' advertising thing until you hit the page where they make you sign up for Silver, Gold and Platinum offers. That usually is all you need to get Treasure Trooper credit.
-- Don't buy anything advertised to you on the Free Offers survey things. Well, unless you want to. @__@ But I never do.
-- If you DO actually want to sign up and buy stuff offered, please use a prepaid credit card to keep from getting scammed.
-- Some of your offers might not be credited. Wait about a week or two, then try doing it again. Not all offers clear the first time.
Referrals: One interesting part of Treasure Troopers is that for referrals, you earn 20% of their earnings, and 5% from their referrals (secondary referrals). Certainly an easy way to rake in the cash IF you get alot of people to sign up, since the numbers build.
No tips for this, just an FYI.
The Checks: Straight from the Treasure Trooper website is their payout policy...
On the 15th-20th of each month, we will send your payment if you have earned a minimum of 20 dollars by the last day of the previous month.
The payout is on a regular basis, and every month there is a thread in the forums where people post their "proof" that Treasure Trooper works. Yay for pictures of checks to prove it isn't all a scam. But you have to watch out for that cutoff date. I didn't make my first $20 until the middle of April, so that means I don't get my check until the 15-20th of May. Then again, you never 'lose' any money, so you just keep earning and earning until you DO hit the $20 payout mark. I am looking forward to getting my check in May, for over $20, since I've been earning more since I hit the mark. ^__^
Well, that's Treasure Trooper. I wouldn't say that it's easy money, but it certainly is money that is available for you to get your hands on, once you jump through all the hoops.
Just play it smart, don't give out your personal info unless the site is secure, get used to filling out surveys/advertising/ticky boxes/buttons, AND GET A NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS OMG.
Have fun!
