Title: A Happy Ending Kind of Thing

Warnings: Sap, waff, and unabashed wibbly squishiness. Also, het and yaoi pairings implied. Heavily based off the RP I play in, since I like happy endings.
Summary: Getting older sort of sucks but it's worth it.

He doesn't know what wakes him up in the middle of the night, but once his senses are tweaked, there's no getting back to sleep. There's no unfamiliar scents or strange sounds; no dark presences lurking in the corners except for his shadows, but those are normal. He even deigns to look with his eyes instead of just the quick scan with his powers, but even after squinting and rubbing his eyes with one hand, there is nothing amiss. It's been quite awhile since he's had to fight off anything creeping in from the dark and he doesn't have the urge to sit on the roof or wander the beach in the middle of the night; he's tired but awake and man, this bites.

So he lays back down in bed, and decides to look at Namine sleeping for awhile. Her long blonde hair is spilled messily across the pillows, and he can't help but reach out and brush some of it away from her face, tracing his fingers featherlight down her cheek. The movement makes some muscles in his back twinge in protest -- fuck, getting old sucks so much -- and maybe he should have taken that offer of a quick Cure from Sora after their spar earlier. But, no, he just had to swagger and wave it off, especially after watching Riku sucking down a potion like he was dying when he had managed a lucky strike that got through Riku's defenses. And then he'd had to celebrate his victory very enthusiastically both Sora and Riku (also partly to appease his Real Thing and soothe his wounded pride), and then celebrate again when he'd reenacted the event to Namine.

Well, he still has his pride afterall, and if it still bothers him in the morning, maybe he'll ask for a remedy then. He's going to have to make sure Axel isn't around for that, or he'll never hear the end of it. And he's suddenly very glad that he and Namine had moved into their own little place, alone, and away from the threesome of Axel, Roxas and Demyx -- besides, he couldn't stand to hear Axel bang on the walls all the time when he spent the night with Namine, or see Roxas' threatening little glares on the morning after, or see Demyx... well, Demyx seemed to be mostly okay with their relationship.

At any rate, Big Brother Syndrome times three is something he's very glad to be away from. But getting older still really sucks, he thinks, as his back twinges again. It's worth it though... worth anything to finally be laying here with Namine, to have a brand new life filled with happiness and joy and love. He'd never dreamed he could feel this fulfilled and whole, but he is, and every day seems to get better.

So he settles himself into bed more comfortably, curling himself around Namine protectively, pulling the covers up over their shoulders, and closes his eyes. He's going to have to remember that Kairi's birthday is in a few days and there will be a party at Sora and Riku's place... and the bills need to be paid for the month... that he and Roxas need to finish planning their trip to Twilight Town... and Riku's been complaining about Sora being lazy again and all three of them need to make repairs to the boats before fishing season kicks in.

"Ri..." Namine says sleepily, scooting backwards to remove any distance between them, and her small hand tugging at his wrist. He kisses her bare shoulder in apology -- he didn't mean for his busy thoughts to wake her -- and lets that contented and happy warmth fill him again.

He twines his fingers with the fingers of Namine's hand, hears the soft clink of their matching rings bumping, vaguely thinks that getting older isn't so bad, then falls asleep with a smile on his face.
