Bwehehehe I love my parents sometimes
Jul. 13th, 2005 03:48 pmAnd today is one of those sometimes.
Guess who has a new laptop?
*^__________________^*
Yup, that's right~! ME!
I called my parents last night (but mom wasn't home) to inform them of the laptop situation and Solo's death (no, I don't call him Solo to my parents). My mom called back later to ask me what happened, and I told her all about the reformatting problem, etc. Me not having a working computer is a BIG problem, since a LOT of my notes and important information is in computer-ish form. Finally, my mom said she'd talk to my dad when he got home, and he'd call me in the morning to tell me what their decision was.
So, dad called at like, 7:45am and woke me up, and I had to explain everything again while I was half-conscious and laying in bed, but in the end, he told me that I could charge the new laptop on my credit card. YAY!! I went back to bed for awhile (tired), and once I got up, I went out computer shopping.
BWHAHAHAAHAHAH.
I have a new S Series Sony Vaio Laptop, who is now named Shukaku (since, you know, not getting much sleep lately). I also managed to get Shukaku on sale (there's a $100 rebate I need to mail in) and so he was WELL below the $2000 price I quoted to my parents off the top of my head. I've got a DVD/CD RW burner, integrated wireless, Memory Stick slot (for my camera as I am Sony's bitch), 2 USB ports, 80GB harddrive, 512MB of RAM, and an Intel Centrino processor. I was VERY tempted to name my laptop "Shinigami" or "Duo" since he came after Solo's death, but I restrained myself from that kind of geekery. Besides, everyone and their dog has a computer named Duo. XD! The screen is widescreen, and the keyboard will take some time for me to get used to, since they're different from Solo's. But Shukaku weighs in at about 4 lbs., which is just a little bit more than Solo without his docking station, so I am HAPPY. Shu-chan was also the LAST Vaio of this type in the store. It was a sign. :3
Anyway, once Solo is reformatted and made sure to work correctly, my mom gets to have him. She's been wanting a laptop or something, probably because the home computer is a piece of crap now. So, Solo won't be going to waste. He will LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE. I hope. Once he's fixed.
Now I have to set up Shu-chan to my personal preferences and load up all my documents and stuff again. x____X Guh. I forgot what a PAIN it was to set up a new computer, especially since I customize freaking EVERYTHING, from the desktop, to the icons, to the SOUNDS. Also, need to pull off all the programs on Shu-chan that I don't need (like Netscape) and get the ones I DO need (like Firefox, WinAmp, WinZip, AdAware, Spyware Blaster, Snood, etc.). Though, it's nice that Shu-chan comes with virus software and such, and Microsoft Office, but they're only trial versions that will expire in 45 or 90 days or something. x___X I need to find my Word CD from when I bought Solo. I can't live without a proper word processing program.
Now I must away to finish up with Shu-chan. *twitch* Once these fricken' Norton Anti-Virus updates finish. x___X So many. And I don't wanna install/download/mess with things while this is running.

Not quite...mine's Annabell Lee, after the late Annabell (who died after a fairly long lifetime of service). But I did manage to get all of my stuff off of her, 'cause I'd boot up both computers and then just transfer everything from my old comp to my new one via the wireless network. *grin*
the keyboard will take some time for me to get used to
*nodnods* Annabell Lee has a Fn (function) key next to the Ctrl key, whereas my old comp didn't. So I keep going to do things like Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, and I keep punching the Fn key instead! However, it's also got a nifty set of "forward" and "back" keys, so if I'm surfing the internet and I don't feel like moving my mouse up to the back button, I can just punch the key instead. *restrains self from babbling on and on*

Yeah, but they're useful/necessary when push comes to shove, and they do keep viruses out. Or at least, they do for me...
Congrats on your new computer! May you and Shukaku have many happy days together!
