Because she promised me more Saki-chan for this. And the bunnies keep gnawing on me while I write about mercenaries. And because this is my break to eat dinner before more work.
The set up for this... universe is lengthy, so I shall cut.
This, if I continue it, will be more like a drabble-series in the same universe.
Basically, this is set in the future of Naruto, and I gleefully rape canon. Bwahah. Everyone is in their late teens, and Naruto has moved up the shinobi ranks fairly quickly ever since he brought Sasuke back from Orochimaru. Sasuke realized he was being an asshat, especially since Naruto thrashed him badly to make that point. They've been together since Sasuke came back. However, Sasuke is not allowed out of the borders of Konohagakure unless he has jounin-level or higher escorts (or Naruto) with him.
But the villagers and the council are wary of Naruto having so much power, especially since he's rapidly becoming a contender for Hokage (especially with Tsunade's support). In retaliation, Naruto is made a "special envoy," a diplomat to other countries. The council wants to keep Naruto OUT and AWAY from Konoha as much as possible, and if he's killed by foreign shinobi, all the better. However, this sorta backfires because Naruto ends up being a very good ambassador (a.k.a. Kyuubi has fun manipulating little human minds and politics).
Unfortunately for Naruto and Sasuke, Naruto is gone from Konoha more than 6 months out of the year, so it's a strain on their relationship. Especially once Naruto gets posted to Sunagakure, and starts getting close to a certain red-haired Kazekage...
----------------------
The first thing Sasuke did when he saw Naruto step out of Godaime's office that afternoon was slug him across the face. Naruto didn't see the punch coming -- didn't even expect it from his lover -- and therefore was more than a little off balance and had no time to retaliate before Sasuke's hand was on his throat and he was slammed violently back against the wall. A framed landscape portrait rattled ominously above their heads, but Naruto was too occupied with familiar eyes inches from his own and spinning a vicious Sharingan red.
Naruto choked, then gasped, one hand coming up to clench at Sasuke's wrist, the other on his shoulder to keep the other teenager from stepping forward and hitting any vitals. "Wha...?"
Sasuke pressed his face closer, their noses brushing. "You're late," he hissed through clenched teeth.
The blond wheezed again. "S-sorry? There was... blizzard halfway between... Stone... Sasuke, I can't breathe!"
The hand on his throat finally released, but Naruto was barely able to catch a breath before Sasuke's lips crashed down on his, making him breathless in a much more pleasurable way. Their stances shifted and melded from fighting to passion and Naruto found himself with his hands buried in Sasuke's hair and not knowing how it happened. Sasuke's hands had managed to unfasten Naruto's jounin vest and were working under the black shirt underneath.
"Two weeks late," Sasuke breathed against Naruto's lips between kisses. "I've been going fucking nuts stuck here and you're LATE. On top of being gone longer than normal."
"I... I'm sorry? I mean, you're not mad, are you?" Naruto groaned. No, Sasuke couldn't be mad, could he? Not the way he was trying to get into Naruto's pants right here in the hallway of the Hokage's Tower.
"I'm furious. I haven't gotten laid for seven months and two weeks."
Naruto just grinned and tightened his grip on Sasuke's hair, angling the other teen's head more comfortably. He plunged his tongue down Sasuke's throat, enjoying the way Sasuke's hands stilled from their explorations and his whole body went limp and pliant against Naruto's. The blond brokes the kiss, but kept their lips brushing.
"Me either," he replied. "Let's work on that, huh? But maybe some place where we won't be blocking traffic. 'Baa-san's mad enough at me already."
There was a poof of jutsu smoke, and the two teenagers tangled together were gone.
-----------------------
Everyone knew it was unfair, but Naruto would give up his soul for Konoha if asked.
Sasuke stood in the doorway of their bedroom, arms crossed and simply watching as Naruto hunted for clothes and packed them away in his journeybag. The atmosphere between them had been tense since that morning, when Tsunade had handed the mission scroll to Naruto, an expression of deep sadness in her eyes. Naruto had read the scroll silently, then simply stood there in the briefing room, frozen. The other ninjas awaiting their orders had been surprised by the sight of the blond so unmoving, and it was Sakura had pulled the scroll from Naruto's limp hands and read it. Her scream of outrage had probably been heard all the way to Sunagakure.
But Naruto and Tsunade's gazed were locked, until the woman had broken the gaze and looked away from the utterly blank expression on a face she adored.
"You can choose to refuse this mission..." Tsunade had said oh-so-carefully. But that was a platitude. No ninja would refuse orders, especially not a "high honor" such as an "ambassadorial position." If Naruto refused, he would probably never be considered for Hokage. All his dreams would be dashed by a malicious council and the workings of politics and small human minds.
Then Naruto blinked, and a familiar grin was on his lips. "I accept this mission, Tsunade-baa-san! I don't take back my words, and if this is what the council wants, I'll be honored to accept this position! It's my ninja way! Saaa... I better get packing then! The journey north to Rain is pretty long!"
There was a puff of smoke and Naruto was gone.
Sasuke, himself, took longer to process what had just happened. It was impossible, right? Naruto had NOT just agreed to what amounted to exile from Konoha, had he? Quickly, he pulled the scroll from Sakura and teleported himself away from the briefing room, not caring that he had gone there with Naruto to pick up a new mission as well. But once he returned to their home, where he could hear Naruto rattling around for his supplies, Sasuke found that he could not speak. Instead he shadowed the other teen, silently watching.
Naruto paused in his packing, tanned fingers brushing over the framed picture of the genin Team 7.
"Usuratonkatchi."
Naruto winced, then turned his blue eyes on Sasuke. "Haa, now don't call me that, bastard! Shouldn't you be supportive or something? This is a great honor to be--"
"Shut up!" Sasuke snarled, stalking forward and jerking Naruto up from the floor. "What the hell do you think you're doing? You know that this is a joke!"
Naruto's face slipped from the foxy grin to a more neutral expression. "Yeah, but it's not all that funny to me."
"Why?!" Sasuke demanded. "Refuse this 'mission'! I can't believe you of all people would let someone else tell you what to do."
The blond sighed, then reached up, sliding one hand through Sasuke's hair and resting across the band of his forehead protector. Naruto's other hand came up and he traced one finger over the stylized leaf in the middle of Sasuke's forehead.
"This is why, Sasuke. I'm a shinobi of Konoha. I'll do anything. I'll kill, and steal, and protect. A Hokage... a ninja... has to be ready to die for Konoha."
Sasuke pulled Naruto into his arms, almost clinging. He didn't want Naruto to go. He didn't want his last connection to this place taken from him. "They're making you their sacrifice."
Naruto closed his eyes, and brushed his lips against Sasuke's neck. "I'll go to the slaughter then. Because that's what Konoha wants me to do."
They stood together in silence.

Date: 2005-06-14 04:05 pm (UTC)Damn Naruto and his unswerving loyalty anyway XD...just kidding! And you know...I utterly adore your writing and this story is just starting out and I am in love with it already but...I've never liked the idea of Naruto already being in a relationship with Sasuke and then also "falling" for Gaara...b/c wouldn't that make Naruto a bit fickle? And a cheating jerk? lol..I mean, ok, so he can't control how he feels or his hormones, but like you pointed out already so early in the story, Naruto is loyal to a fault. If he was in love with Sasuke, I don't think he'd ever give in to Gaara should he even feel anything for the redhead.
Ok, I am SO getting ahead of myself here...b/c you haven't even said a single thing about Naruto EVER getting involved with Gaara XD...but um...yeah, just my opinion, though. ^___^

Hehehehe... everyone keeps saying I should keep going. I need to figure out a few bits of the timeline and plot and such first. :P Plus, very busy IRL.
Anyway, yes, it's kind of bad that Naruto would be with Sasuke and then "fall" for Gaara, but you've missed the obvious thing. Naruto doesn't NEED to "fall" for Gaara -- he already HAS. Remember, Sasuke has been away for a number of years before Naruto got him back; I didn't write it in the summary thing, but Naruto has been with Gaara before. X3 This is why Naruto knows!what!sex!is. So Gaara and Naruto have already had a sort of relationship, that was also strained because:
1) They never got to see each other much
2) They are ninjas of different Villages (and Gaara is Kazekage)
3) They never actually SAID anything to each other; their relationship is more like: "We understand each other and are attracted to each other, and so whenever we meet up, we'll take the time to try and shag or something."
Sasuke... knows that Naruto is sorta close to Gaara. ^^;; But not exactly how much. I don't want Naruto to be like a sex god or pimp or anything like that, more that Sasuke and Gaara are both extremely important to him, so he wants them both to be happy. The relationshippy problems between the three are sort of an important part of this series.
