Not Dead Yet
Sep. 14th, 2004 02:47 pmIt's funny that when I don't update my LJ like a fiend, people assume something wrong has happened with me. #^^# Makes me feel rather loved, actually... in that weird stalker-ish way.
And yes, I have downed my obligatory can of Pepsi already. Damn soda machines. I had the $1.25 for a 20 oz. bottle, but my dollar was one of those dollar coins that look like quarters, so it didn't work. T_T I had to buy a regular can of Pepsi instead. Bah... now I'll have to badger whoever gives me change from my lunch/diner/meal later to give me my change in $1 bills and quarters, since I need bus fare.
Ah... must remember there's an APALSA meeting tomorrow. *nodnod*
So, we're going to have a panel discussion in my Women & Law class sometime in November. My professor was asking us for topics so that she could start lining up people to speak and stuff. Anyway, people were sticking with things like domestic violence and the hardships of being an immigrant/of color as well as a woman, etc. But, somehow, we all started really getting into the idea of having a panel on pornography/sex industry and how it affects women, etc.
XD
I'd like to point out that I did not start this thread of the conversation, though I wanted it to got hat way. Learning about pornography would be much more fun than learning about gender discrimination in the legal field.
Anyway, the professor was asking us if we knew anyone "in the field", i.e. prostitutes or pimps that would like to share their sides of the issue, that we should see if they couldcome attend. And there's a lot of feminists who work in the exotic dance industry as well. I'm much amused.
I suppose it helped that we were discussing legal subordination of sexual relations relating to women in class. ^^;; There was a rather nice diversion on the origin of the term "lesbian," and assorted other things. And everything really IS the fault of old white men. Bwah!
After class I hustled my way to the bus stop, where the bus was late. Again. I really hate it when the night bus is late. And it was really scary! I was sitting in my seat, trying to take my little nap like I always do, but I was so tense I couldn't relax at all. There was a guy standing near me who was rapping, very loudly and badly, to the CD he was listening to. He was also drinking a beer. I was worried that he might get violent or something because he started yelling at some of the people in the back of the bus. Well, he was rapping the most vulgar parts of the lyrics at them at any rate. And then started ranting about how this is what's real blah blah blah.
And then he touched the girl sitting behind me, who was directly across from him. She was reading X manga. ^^;; Anyway, she told him politely to not touch her again, and the tension on the bus jumped a million points. The guy kept touching her, slapping her knees and stuff and she was getting pissed and kept telling him to stop touching her. Finally he laid off, after ranting some more about how this was "a black bus and this is real and you better know it."
Yeah, just what I need... racial tensions while I'm on the bus. >_<;; And the bus isn't a "black" bus anyway. There's a lot of Asians and Hispanics who ride it. But I was really getting worried when the hispanic guys on the bus all heard the guy yelling and the girl (also hispanic) trying to get him to leave her alone. I swear the if anything else had happened, there might have been some fighting. I was so scared.
I was so glad to hop off the bus and head home. >_<;;
