More Hit and Run ^^
Jun. 7th, 2004 05:07 pmBlarhar! Out of classes for the day (now that I've dropped Intro to Thai Law and re-scheduled to take Regional Orgz and Current Int'l Legal problems for 3 units each). Haven't had lunch yet, but I have a box of pocky in my bag, so I figure I'm good until dinner. ^^; Been spending a lot lately, tales of which I shall recount both for reading enjoyment and so I don't forget stuff.
Oh... and info on presents/souveniers await. If you want a present, you better warn me. I'll be having a Christmas in July. XD
THURSDAY:
Anyway, after classes last Thursday, there's nothing scheduled for Friday (it's open for school field trips) and the weekend loomed ahead. After jaunting around the internet (damn, these comps here are hella slow), I decided to go to MBK, which is this huge shopping plaza thing in Siam Square. There's also Siam Discovery and Siam Center, both of which make megamalls at home look like a minimart.
MBK had 10 FLOORS. TEN. Well, one floor is for the movie theatre and arcade and such but it still counts. MBK is laid out with a lot of small shops like a regular mall, but also stall pack the floor like a marketplace. I managed to get turned around a lot, but also scored some deals while there. I only managed to hit the first 4 floors and scope them out, though I really studied the first floor. I made "friends" with a stalllady and I practiced my bargaining and haggling skills with her.
The day's take: A multitude of silk skirts/pants, shirts, kimonos, and two-piece outfits. Price: about $100
I shopped for about 3 hours. I was very tired and got lost on the SkyTrain (like BART trains), but got back tot he hotel alright.
FRIDAY:
Slept in until 9 am, which is late, because the free breakfast at the hotel ends at 10am. Bwahahaha. None of us in the hotel miss the breakfast. We always load up really heavy to get us through the day, so we only have to pay for dinner. It's all about economy, baby!
Anyway, after breakfast, I pondered what to do. I decided to go back to MBK and buy some more stuff. On my way out of the hotel, I saw one of my classmates (Taj) and politely inquired about what he was doing for the day. He didn't have anything planned and I innocently invited him to go with me to MBK.
BIG MISTAKE.
He is the aforementioned loser that was in my hit-and-run entry earlier. I thought he was pretty okay, and I was just trying to be nice, but his attitude really grated on me. Plus, he got kinda male and touchy and I was doing my best to give off "don't touch me I don't like you that way" signals. *sighs* I don't think it worked much, but after following me hrough 2 or 3 shops, I finally told him he wouldn't have fun watching me shop, since bright shiny things distract me. Thankfully, he said okay and we agreed to meet at 5pm to go back to the hotel or whatever.
Once again, I attacked the first floor with a fury, buying a nice two-piece outfit and two bolts of Thai silk (4 meters each). After a quick energy refuel at McDonald's (T_T yay), I went back to my favorite stalllady. She remembered me and I proceeded to haggle with her and just sorta... kept adding things to the pile (literally pile) of things to buy. I finally made off with 10 things for a bargain price of 3000 baht (4000 baht is $100). I got a bunch of silk scarves, a silk shirt for my dad, and 3 more bolts of Thai silk.
>_>

This is where the souveniers come in. I need colors and such from <a href="http://windandwater.livejournal.com/friends">a number of you out there</a>. Right now, the choices seem to be: silk scarves, bolts of Thai silk, silk outfits, these cool pant/skirt silk things, silk kimonos, etc. Also cute things like little elephants (more on this later), Buddha things (like amulets), and bunny hairclips (need to buy these). Just remember that the sizes here are Thai, which is Asian, which equals small. ^^;; The silk outfits fit someone of my size (if you've seen me) quite well, but there's some that are stretchy, but not too much. The skirt/pants things fit almost anybody, and the kimonos are kimonos. Scarves are also for everyone. ^^; The bolts of silk are 4 meters long and can be used for tailoring, or bedspreads or whathave you. I've been buying them based on colors and the designs woven into them. <lj site="livejournal.com" comm="slow_as_hell">, of course, gets to be on my special list. As well as <lj site="livejournal.com" user="skyblueandblack">, <lj site="livejournal.com" user="aoi">, <lj site="livejournal.com" user="kochou">, <lj site="livejournal.com" user="tsigane35">, <lj site="livejournal.com" user="sukino">, etc etc etc. So you guys better tell me your preferences RIGHT NOW!!!
... enough of that for now. ^________^
So after going insane while shopping, I got lost on the 4th floor, which is ALL ELECTRONICS. Namely, cellphones. There must have been 10,000 cellphones for sale or something. I need a picture to prove it to everyone. I got scared and quickly scurried away to meet Taj.
We met, and after some prompting, asked him to take me to the... 9th floor (?) where there's all sorts of handicrafts made out of wood and things. I need to go there too! Oh yes... you can also beg a trinket box from me or something. Bwahaha. I get better deals if I buy alot. XD XD XD
I also dragged Taj with my up to the movie theatre, so I could swoon over the huge Harry Potter posters. I was once again weak, and bought two sets of special postcards. I'll have to buy them for <lj site="livejournal.com" user="aoi">, too.
Was tired. Went back to the hotel. Day trips on Saturday and Sunday. ^^;
I told Taj that it seemed like I couldn't step out of the hotel without spending $100.

XD I plan on going to Patpong for shopping (and it's a big club district too). And I know that Sukhumvit Soi 2 is the gay area. I'm collecting tourist magazines and guidebooks solely for the advertisements for "handsome men and ladyboys" offering businessment "special" massages int heir hotel rooms. I shall bring them to YCon. Or scan them at home. XD XD XD

oh, you'll have fun at the River Kwai... XD the bridge is... well, you'll see. >_>;
you should bring the ads to Y-Con *nodnod* so we can perv through them in case they prohibit the watching of gay porn again.
