Sera-chan's Tips for Yaoi-Con

<lj-cut text="cut for ranty helpfulness">

Actually, this is going to be a mix of tips for the Con and being in SF. ^^; Hope no one minds.

-- It's cold. Yes, it is. The weather is generally sunny, but there's a killer wind that comes off the bay. Cold cold cold. Of course, this comes from a girl who is used to desert weather. ^^;; Anyway, try to pack a bit warm, long-sleeves, or at least a good jacket or sweater. If you plan on going out sightseeing or doing touristy things, and not just hanging out in the hotel, you'll need a sweater.

-- Bring an extra bag. By this, I mean a backpack or something, ESPECIALLY if you're going to be doing touristy things. It's far easier to put everything you buy in one backpack than carrying a lot of seperate bags. And it's easier on your hands.

-- PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION! Please make use of this, as SF has a good public transportation system (MUNI and BART). Fare for the buses is $1.25 (exact change only), and you can get a transfer that works for 1 1/2 hours after the time you get on the bus. Of course, I always fold up my transfers so you can't see the cut-off time, and use it all day. ^^;; Ssshhh! Don't tell anyone!

-- BRING CHANGE! Dollar bills and quarters are VERY handy, especially for public transportation. Having small denomination bills is always better if you're making small purchases anyway.

-- HOTEL AREA. The hotel is on 5th and Market. Market Street, while being a great place for shopping and tourism, also has a HIGH density of homeless people. I mean it. Don't be surprised by what you see. Also, Market Street can be a bit dangerous at night, so please be careful. But, the hotel is also somewhat centrally located, very near the major tourist spots. All buses seem to end up on Market Street, so transportation won't be a problem.

-- FOOD. Because it's on Market Street, there's a wide variety of food choices available. From what I remember, there's numerous small cafes, a Carl's Jr., and other fast food within walking distance (less than a block or so). There's also a Walgreen's (and other like stores) nearby if you want to buy food and keep it in your room.

-- TOURISM. Take advantage of the city if you can. ^^ There's Japantown, Chinatown, Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf, Embarcadero Center, Golden Gate Park, etc. etc. And if you're Sony's bitch, there's the Metreon. I forgot what street it's on, but it's a short busride from the hotel. And they have a Bandai store there. I remember this because they had a HUGE model of a Gundam in front of it the last time I went.

-- SAFETY. Please please please, keep track of your possessions and surroundings when you go out. Things can be dangerous, as SF is a VERY busy city with lots of people. I would suggest that you DON'T go out alone! Especially at night! Groups are better and funner.

** For the Con **

-- SLEEP. Well, this isn't a neccessity, really. :P But things are much more fun if you're actually cognizant and able to remember things.

-- BATHE. Please. ^^;;

-- EAT. You would think that these things would be obvious, ne? But I remember tightening my belt to buy just one more doujinshi. Heheheh...

-- HAVE FUN!
</lj-cut>

... uhm... did I miss anything? If I did, please tell me! I'm very happy to add things or answer questions. I'm sure I forgot something. ^^;

Go forth, my children, and be free!

Awwww! *hugs* Too bad you can't go. Even if you don't bring money to spend, it's fun just to meet everyone. The GW contingent will be there again this year.

*grins* But don't worry! I always take pics and write a Con report.

Rawr. I might be able to make it in 2006 at the earliest. -_-; But that's so far away...I hope everyone I know now is still attending then..:/

I hope yaoicon is still going on then o_o; it is 3 years away after all...*sweatsriver*

#^^# My last Ycon report is somewhere on my LJ, and I have the pics up still, too. I think.

And you should go if you can! The only cons I go to are YCon and AX.

Are you sure there aren't any questions you have? I know you're coming from VERY far away. And I might not follow that food vs. doujinshi thing either, but if I get hungry, I can always go home. ^^;;

hm...

the only big questionmark on my mind is next to the pre-registration booth thing, but... I think that'll be fairly easy to find, so I'm not too worried about it. ^__^

I'm sure the 'eeks'-feeling will settle in by Friday 4 pm... ^_~

Well, I'm sure there will be a sign or something for where pre-reg is. There better be! Though, I'm registering at the con. ^^; I was bad and did things late.

And yes, YCon is sooo soon!

I always go hungry at cons... ;_;

Really, I would say, it's just wiser to bring your own food even though there are stores nearby. There will be a lot of people flooding into the area, and stores can get crowded and swamped and sell out of the good stuff.

That's true, but if the Walgreen's nearby runs out, there's another on the next block, and the next block, and the next block. -__- There's like, a Walgreen's on EVERY FREAKIN' BLOCK.

Same with Starbuck's. *nikoniko*
