did this during class...
Oct. 3rd, 2002 10:51 am... damn, the Mannish Lady has like, no vocal inflection. i'm glad i didn't waste my time listening to her.
PART 1
Your Pseudonym:
Sailor Seraphim is my "main" pseudonym. I use it for my writing, my webpage, etc. But I've also been known as Hi no Tenshi (Hi-chan), Tsukino Celeste, and the Chick in the Fuku.
How long have you known about/read/written fanfiction?
Oh... ouch. I've been writing fanfiction since sophmore year in high school. Since I was 16, pyon! It sucked terribly. I'm so embarassed. No wonder I had writer's block for two years.
What fandom(s) do you read/write/are you involved in?
I read so many fandoms that it's not even funny. I'm a habitual lurker, and I like crossovers, so I bounce from fandom to fandom like a little rubber ball. As for writing/involvement, I'm only heavily involved in Gundam Wing. Then, in order of fics written, Sailor Moon (my first fandom!), Magic Knight Rayearth, Pokemon, Vampire Princess Miyu.
Who is/are your favorite character(s) and why?
:::gulps::: I like Duo Maxwell the most. It's mostly because he's got such an interesting personality -- a true conflict of interests since he's an optimistic person as well as Shinigami. There's so much room to play with him! :::giggles::: From Sailor Moon, I actually like Usagi the best, but only *my* manga version of her. I tend to write her more mature and knowledgable than everyone else does.
Do you identify with certain characters? Which one(s)?
Probably Duo, because I understand about having to balance two parts of your life. Plus... DUO! He's so... Duo. I [heart] Duo.
What type/genre of fanfic do you read/write?
I tend to do angsty, psychological POV oneshots. I like "thinky weird fics." But I read almost anything.
Why do you read/write fanfiction? Please give details!
Oh, this one is easy. I write because if I didn't, the bunnies would eat me alive. I like to write... it's the one thing I do that's purely creative. I have to destess somehow, even if it's by beating my head against my laptop. I read because I'm a consumate reader, but I'm too cheap to buy books. Plus, I love to see how other people view different things that happen in a series.
Do you read official novel adaptations of TV shows? If you do, how do they compare? Please give details.
Uhh... no, not really. I mean, I've read the Star Wars novels, but I don't think that really counts. If I wanna see a TV show, I'll watch it, not read it.
What are your favorite subgenres and why?
I guess yaoi would fit in here, ne? I also like AUs. Basically, anything that's well-written is worth my time.
Is there any kind of fan fiction you wouldn't read?
Urrr... I pretty much loathe Mary Sues. I also won't read stuff if it has a pairing that I don't like (which in GW means pretty much anything het). I try to stay away from the horror/pure NCS stuff, too... I'd rather have a happy ending. Or an angsty one.
PART 2
Do you prefer to read fanfiction online or in zines?
Online, baby. I'm an internet junkie... I need my hit everyday.
Are you a member of a mailing list?
>_< Yes. But I read online rather than having it sent to my mailbox. Also, I only actively follow one ML and one BBS, and just skim the others when I feel like it.
If yes, do you participate actively on the list or do you prefer to 'lurk'?
Lurker. I don't like to be in the spotlight a whole lot. But on the GWA BBS, I try to be sort of active.
How actively are you involved in your fandom(s)?
Uhm, aside from writing fics and commenting on them, not so much. I want to be, I suppose, but I'm not that interesting and I don't have time.
Do you know other fans personally?
Aside from my personal friends? No. But I'm trying to remedy that.
Do you have friends who read/write fanfiction? If yes, how many?
:::giggles::: Nearly all of them. But they don't write in *my* fandom too much. Aoi-chan reads GW though.
Do you talk about fanfiction with your friends and/or family?
Only with my friends. My parents think that anything not related to me getting my degree and making money is a waste of my time. My friends are the only support I have in my insanity.
How intensely are you involved with fanfiction/the fan community? (time, effort, etc.)
Like I said, I'd like to be, but RL has a way of attacking me horribly.
Do you attend conventions? If you do, how often?
Yes! I try to attend AX every year (since 1999, baby!). I've been to ComicCon twice (1998 and 2001). And this will be my first year at Yaoi-Con.
PART 3/1 - READERS
Do you send feedback regularly? If not, what does motivate you to send feedback?
I'm such a bad reader. >_< I don't send feedback, really, unless it's really really good. But I've been replying a lot on the GWA BBS... go me!
Do you like to read AU stories?
Oh, hell yes. "Bridlewood Manor" by Mitsugi is the bast damn thing I've read in a long time. I love to see my favorite GBoyz in different situations.
PART 3/2 ... WRITERS
How important is feedback to you?
:::cackles insanely::: I love feedback! Ego-stroking, woo yeah! It gives me a happy.
Would you write even if you didn't get any?
>_< I don't get a lot of feedback, so yes. I write mainly for myself... the feedback just makes me feel like I haven't written like shit.
Do you reply to every feedback/fanmail you get?
Uhm... pretty much. Not counting reviews on FanFiction.Net. Anything I get by e-mail or on the BBS, I reply to. It's polite.
Do you have your stories beta'd before you post them? If you do, do you think the comments/suggestions of a beta reader help you to improve your writing style?
Usually. I run my fics past K-chan or Aoi-chan if I feel particularly iffy about them. But if I like the fic and it's a short oneshot or something, I'll just let it sit on my harddrive, look at it a few times, then post it up. It really depends on my mood.
In your favorite fandom, what are the major differences between canon and fanon?
Oh, there's hella differences between GW fanon and canon. Especially since I write shounen ai/yaoi. It mostly has to do with the way characters are portrayed, and what relationships they've had, and what their pasts were like, etc. My personal fanon is pretty stable and I tend to write my GBoyz based on my own model of their characters.
Have you ever worked as a beta reader?
Yes, for my friends mostly. But I have offered to beta for others.
If you beta, how frequently do you do that?
Urr... not so often. We're a lazy bunch about writing.
What is your primary motivator for accepting a beta reading assignment?
If I know someone. Or if I know the person and generally like their stuff.
Provide any more details below on why you choose to be a beta reader.
Because I like making my life difficult?
PART 4
Sex: No, not right now, thanks. I'm a busy person.
Age: Physically, I'm legal. Mentally though, that's always up for grabs.
Occupation: Student. God... I've been going to school for so long... >_<
Place of residence: In houses. With furniture.
Ethnic background: Is this really important? I'm a minority, if you really want to know.
Favorite movies/books/music: Oh... urgh... lots. >_< I listen to everything that sounds cool (which means everything besides country, hard rap, and Marilyn Manson). Movies would be Star Wars (both trilogies), LOTR, Harry Potter, Grosse Pointe Blank, Dogma. Books... urgh, the Mode Series by Piers Anthony. Kurt Vonnegut, "classics", science fiction, etc... Can you tell that I bounce around a lot?
Sexual orientation: Getting personal, eh? I don't see how this matters with anything.
Do you consider yourself an intellectual? Yes... but not in a snotty way. I just like knowing things and debating things with people. It's amusing. And it makes me less anti-social.
