tired but happy
Jul. 8th, 2002 10:47 pmyes, minna-san, i went to AX 2002 and survived. just barely, and my wallet is considerably lighter than it should be, but i'm a happy puppy.
let's see... first things first: what i bought. i dropped WAY too much money at AX this year, but i figure it's all worth it. i made some great deals.
-- a shitload of doujinshi, mostly from Degital PaPa and Nattsu
-- all of Slayers
-- the last two tapes i needed for Slayers: TRY
-- ParaPara Box set (2 double length cds, natch)
-- Gundam Wing Best Collection CD
-- Dance Dance Revolution 2nd Mix CDs
-- shitloads of free stuffs, including a kick ass Escaflowne movie poster
-- ADV t-shirt (it's Excel Saga)... yes, after 5 damn years, i finally managed to get one of those free shirts they throw out to the crowd.
oh, and aoi-chan? the girl we saw who was wearing that starry patterned bag over her body? she was the Spirit of the Macrocosm, from Excel Saga. yes, Excel Saga *IS* crack-anime. but it's damn good crack. i'll even watch the series dubbed, since Excel talks so damn fast.
... mmmm... Menchi-flavored crack...
Music Video Contest... you've probably seen the ranting all over the web, but hey, we were a pissed off bunch of otaku who had to wait for like, five hours before finding out we couldn't watch the damn thing. finally saw 'em on sunday (and the winners on saturday during the masquerade). all i can say is .... *DAMN*. they were REALLY REALLY GOOD. i laughed so hard that i cried watching "A Waste of 6 Minutes and 32 Seconds", the video that won the Humor category. i adored "Silent Lucidity", which was the CCS video that took Best of Show and the Drama award. and i thought the EVA video that won for Action kicked massive amounts of ass. and everything that didn't win was great, too. especially loved the escaflowne video to "Number One Crush".
Masquerade... oh, this was totally worth the wait. we managed to get seats in row 9 because we were getting tickets for a friend. they were in line since 2 AM. other slept in line all night. i don't blame them. notworthy entries? i loved the Epyon that came with its own Zechs Merquise. i screamed like a rabid fangirl when i saw Heero Yuy, Ken (from Weiss), Vash, Kamui and Subaru (?) form the "ultimate boy band" and perform to YMCA. i thought the Yami no Matsuei skit was beautiful, though it totally spoiled me for the series. and who wouldn't enjoy a night that starts off with a band playing Final Fantasy music while dressed as the characters (and the conductor was Seifer!)
Yoko Ishida Concert... hopefully, i will not fall into the trap that is ParaPara, but since i've bought the CDs... :::gulps::: she was so kawaii. and she sang anime songs. what wasn't there to like?
Dances... a definite "must" for the next AX. they played anime songs, J-Rock, techno... it was great. the dance had more of a rave vibe than a dance/club vibe, and it was cool to see people dancing in their costumes. also, the dancing with the lightsticks? very very cool.
Cosplay... well, i was a schoolgirl, a fangirl, Van-sama, and Meiran. i had fun. me and aoi-chan are planning to cosplay for next year. all bish, all yaoi. our main decision seems to be Kamui and Fuuma (me!) with Shinkens. that way when people ask for our picture, we can ask: "would you like that to be yaoi or normal?" as for the other cosplayers, there were shitloads of Escaflowne and Kenshin cosplayers. yes, i nearly glomped a Zechs. it was cool. also saw Iron Chef cosplayers! and the best damn Kenshin that i have ever seen! and really cute little girls dressed as the Amazoness Quartet!
Stalkers... picked one up again. why me?
Overall... a damn good time to be had. can't wait 'till next year.
