For the past four days I've had a stiff neck that refuses to go away. The first day wasn't so bad, since it only started to feel stiff in the evening. The second day I woke with my neck feeling stiff and it was so bad by night time that I could barely sleep, because every time I shifted in bed, I woke up because of the stabbing pain. Yesterday was the third day and was the worst, as I could barely move my right arm at all, and reaching up for anything above elbow height was pretty much impossible, and I couldn't turn my head. I even accidentally bumped my right shoulder into a door (and jarred my head/neck), and the quick flash of pain was so bad I got all teary. It started to feel better last night, but I think that's because I was liberally applying Ben Gay and Advil all day.

T____T

Now my neck is still stiff, but I have more motion, and I can use my arms. I want this to go away. It huuuuuuuuuuuurts. And it's annoying to have to turn my whole body when I want to look at something.

I've been trying to stay sitting up straight or laying flat on my back (I usually sleep curled on my side). One good thing is that I've managed to play a lot of Rune Factory 2. I'm finally starting to make money, and it's nearly the end of Spring. And the girl I am considering marrying likes me! Whoo! Still not sure if I want to marry her or not though.

... I think I need more Advil. I didn't know stiff necks were supposed to last this long. T_T

Do you have a heating pad that gives moist heat? There is usually an insert that you dampen and put into the cover.

Some type of Capesin cream might be of more help. The active ingredient is from the hot pepper. It gets a lot hotter than Ben Gay - just don't let it touch your fingers. Most of these salves work a lot better if you take a really hot shower and then apply when the pores are all open.

If you pulled a muscle, it can last a while. Good luck!

I have the kind of sticky heating patches that stick to your skin so they don't move, but they're dry. Also, I'm not exactly using Ben Gay, but something similar called Banalg that my dad got from his doctor. It's stronger than Ben Gay. And yeah, I took a long hot shower yesterday and it only helped a little. x___X What sucks is that it's cold and rainy here now, which doesn't help.

I've been having a similar problem. It's because when I sleep, I tend to move and put pressure on the same spot that is causing the problem.

Maybe tonight you should try getting into a comfortable (no pain, or minimal) and then placing some pillows around you so you don't shift during sleep. It can't hurt to try.

I find the heating pad works because it keeps the heat-especially the moist heat- concentrated on that spot. You can't take the shower into the bed with you, but this is the next best thing.

Chibi had a stiff neck a couple of weeks ago, it took almost a week for it to go away and that was with liberal amounts of ben gay, not quite so liberal amounts of advil, heating pads, hot showers and massage.

super long extra hot bath soaking is good. also, those silly buckwheat pillows work surprisingly well for me, at least.
