Al didn't sleep very much anymore. In this new metallic body, it was as if he didn't have the need to, the same way he didn't need to eat or bathe or any of the normal things that growing boys did. He still pretended though, would stay very quiet and still at night while Ed tossed and turned and finally sprawled out into an uneasy sleep.

He could remember before... how he and Ed would share their beds and blankets, curled together for warmth on cold wintery nights, or sprawled half-clothed under the window to catch the slight breeze on hot summer nights. He remembered how it felt to slide his calloused fingers (rough from chores and alchemy accidents) over Ed's smooth skin. How it felt to have calloused fingers run up his own back. He remembered soft, wet kisses and hard, throbbing warmth in his hand.

Al stared down at his armoured hands, and wished that he could touch his brother again.
