Atreyu was having a hard time trying not to laugh.

"Come on, it's not like you haven't had eggs before."

Bastian poked at the oddly-shaped thing on his plate. This was not an egg. Okay, technically it was. It was too different from what he was used to though, and there was no way Atreyu was going to get him to eat it.

"I bet this thing has cooties." He said, rubbing his finger and thumb together before getting grossed out and wiping his hand off on his shorts.

"I didn't know cooties came from chickens." Atreyu commented, sucking a still-soft egg shell and all into his mouth.

"Girls and chicken butts." Bastian declared, making a face and looking away from Atreyu. There was no way he was kissing Atreyu until the boy washed his mouth out.

"Better not let the Empress hear you comparing her to a chicken's butt."

"BASTIAN!"

"Uh-oh.."
