Confusion penetrated the turmoil of rage and hate, and slowed him enough for him to recognize Trowa’s presence. There was no-one else around; everyone who had witnessed Heero’s fury had fled. Even though he knew Trowa was there, he still nearly jumped out of his skin at a touch on his shoulder. His arms came up automatically inside Trowa’s and shoved the other man away; they stumbled back from each other and stared in silence for a long moment before Trowa spoke.
“You shouldn’t have done that, Heero.”
An echo of his previous fury crashed over him at the reminder. “That creature did not deserve to live,” he growled.
“That doesn’t matter!” Trowa exclaimed, tension winding tighter and tighter through his lanky frame. “He was an captive; you can’t just kill him on a whim. It violates the war prisoner strictures...”
