Re: Ties that Bind

grasping Duo's shoulders and trying to hold him down. "Duo!" he called loudly, firmly, trying to break through to Duo. "Listen to me. Stop struggling. You're safe. Calm down; you're going to injure yourself if you don't *stop struggling.* You're safe. It's me, Heero..."
Duo let out a shuddering gasp, eyes squeezed closed, and froze suddenly still. For a moment Heero thought he might have gotten through to the other boy, but his limbs were taut as wire and he was trembling from crown to foot. "Let me out oh please let me go Heero help me it hurts let me out let me out let me out let me *out...*"
The words spilled from his lips in a terrifyingly small, pleading voice, and, helplessly, Heero moved to obey. He quickly reached up to unlatch one of Duo's wrists and then the other, then scooted down to free his ankles. As soon as he was free, Duo curled up into a little ball on the mattress, clutching at the blanket as though for protection. Heero moved in to comfort him, and, frighteningly, Duo flinched away from his touch for a moment before relaxing into the comfort of his embrace.
Heero bit his lip, eyes dark as he considered what had just happened. He had been banking on their friendship to make this idea work, assuming that the trust they shared would be enough to overwhelm the bad memories. But what if it worked the other way around, if the bad memories were starting to infect their relationship instead? He wanted a lot of things from Duo, but he didn't want Duo to be *afraid* of him.
::Chalk up another big fat 'mission failed...'::

Heero gritted his teeth as he locked the manacle around Duo's left wrist again. He had the bad feeling that he was falling back into the old "ninmu" mindset, of hitting the brick wall with his head until it fell down. But he'd been unable to think of anything better, and neither had Duo, and so there was no other recourse but to try again.
Distraction, Heero thought determinedly, was the key. He knew his partner very well, and knew that Duo tended to be a creature of the moment. If he could keep Duo's mind on other things, away from the flashbacks long enough for Duo to grow more comfortable with the restraints, then that would be a good start. He only wished that this shabby apartment had a television, the ultimate in distraction devices; as it was, he'd have to do all the distracting himself.
"Remember," he murmured to Duo, who was biting his lip and holding his eyes tightly closed, "ask me to do anything, save letting you go, and I'll do it."
