I think that this is very cool and cute. I happen to like it when LJ does nifty little things that make people happy without causing drama or the servers to melt. It would be a nice surprise to suddenly see a gift in your user info. ♥ Of course, the extra time thing will only enforce the notion that popular people are rewarded beyond others, but eeehhh... they're virtual gifts. I want some. And if I had money, I'd send some.
