I'm bored...
Apr. 2nd, 2003 11:13 pm... hence, I'm filling out a meme.
1. What does your first name mean?
It's a line of cosmetics. No, really. My mother was resting in her hospital room, when she saw the commercial. She thought the name was pretty. Hurm... but I just traced the origins and it says this:
AMABEL f English
From an Old French name which was derived from Latin amabilis "lovable".
But, if you take the nickname I use commonly, you get this:
MAY f English
Derived from the name of the month of May, which derives from Maia, the name of a Roman goddess. May is also another name of the hawthorn flower.
2. What does your middle name mean?
It's my mother's maiden name. It a Filipino thing. It's probably religious in some way, simply from the way the name is put together.
3. What does your last name mean?
It's Spanish in origin. "Something-King." I know how my family first arrived in the Philippines. It's sorta cool.
4. So what does your name mean when put together?
*blinks* Lovable religious king?
5. What would you have been named if you were the opposite gender?
I don't know, but it would probably still start with an "M."
6. Any other name oddities?
I was almost named Margaret. Thank god for television.

Date: 2003-04-03 09:03 am (UTC)Somehow, Peggy is short for Margaret. But mum's given name really is Peggy, not Margaret. When she was in high school, no one believed her, though, so her teachers insisted on calling her Margaret, and other kids called her Maggie or Magnolia. And then Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" came out. She still gets letters from a friend of hers from college addressed to Maggie May.
So yes. Thank god for television. ^_~
