It was warm.

Duo had never in his life felt more at ease and safe than he did right now. As if, like the approaching sun, all the shadows and darkness that lingered in him had been chased away by the bright and gentle warmth.

And the sun, apparently, had decided to shine straight into his eyes.

Duo whimpered at the bright light trying to penetrate through his eyelids and snuggled down deeper, burying his face into a warm crook of neck. Only once before had he felt so safe. Once, when after waking up screaming, Sister Helen had held him in her arms, allowing him to hide his face against the worn material of her habit; to hide his weakness and tears against that inky cloth. She had softly patted his hair, soothing and calming the nightmare-stricken boy with her fingers until he had fallen back asleep. Fingers that were so like the ones that were absently patting and pulling through the long chestnut strands that Duo knew were covering the two bodies entwined on the narrow bed.

Duo's mind finally caught up to all the stimulus his body was providing, shoving away half-formed thoughts, dreams and reminiscences.

Wide violet eyes blinked cautiously open and were met by marine blue ones looked at him from across the pillow.

Duo Maxwell had woken up in Quatre Raberba Winner's arms.

WHY HAD HE WOKEN UP IN QUATRE RABERBA WINNER'S ARMS?!
