HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!!

Let the ravenous feast begin!

And, because I'm in a holiday mood, I'll give you one of my tips for having a very delicious turkey with crispy skin. Before chucking the turkey into the oven, places nice-sized pats of butter on the top of the turkey where the turkey is 'flattest', i.e.: where the butter won't slide off right away while it melts. Don't forget to put good-sized pats in the joints, like where the leg meets the breast and the wing joints.

Put your turkey in the oven and let it roast.

Periodically, (after those first pats have melted into deliciousness) rub the turkey with more butter, especially in places that don't seem like they're getting brown enough (like the sides). The heat of the turkey and the oven will melt the butter as you rub, so you might as well reserve a whole stick for turkey duty.

No, this is not something to do if you're counting calories, but fuck that it's Thanksgiving.

If you use one whole stick of butter on your turkey (maybe more if it's big), you should apply butter roughly three times: the first application when the turkey is cold at the beginning, a rub with butter about halfway through, and another rub with butter about an hour before the turkey finishes cooking. Your turkey skin will be golden and delicious and moist and flavorful, and doing this also means you won't have to baste your turkey, because the butter will work its way into the meat as well.

For more flavor, consider using an herb butter (homemade is just fine) to add more 'omph'.

Devour with impunity! Enjoy!

... P.S. The butter trick also works with roasting chicken. But you use considerably less butter. ♥

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!

Or Happy Thursday for those who don't celebrate. :3

My house smells so good right now. I'm hungry. ;__;

Since I know all you foodies on my flist like to know what's cooking at my house during the holidays, here's our menu for Turkey Day. We stay pretty traditional, and relatives will be over this year, as they usually are. LOLZ. My aunt knows that me and my mom cook really well on holidays.

Dinner:

Roast Turkey
Pork Beef Crown Roast (lolz it's beef, not pork, I didn't look at the butcher's label)
Wild Rice
Fig/Sausage/Something Dressing (or Stuffing, whichever term you prefer)
Green Beans
Cranberry Compote
Mashed Potatoes (or Au Gratin Potatoes)

Dessert:

Apple Pie
Chocolate Silk Pie (not gonna bust this out unless we go through the other desserts first >_>;;)
Creme Puffs

Hors d'Ouvres:

Stuffed Mushrooms
Siopao (Filipino steamed buns)
Bruschetta
Salad

... for huddling under tons of blankets. D:

I was really worried that the weather would continue to do the psychotic thing of being cold and stormy for one week, then 100+ degrees the next, but that doesn't seem to be the case. On one hand, I'm glad of non-psycho weather. On the other, IT IS FREEZING. Literally! It was 34 degrees the past two nights. It'll be hitting 30 tonight, I think. I'm almost afraid to look.

So, in honor of the season, I have busted out with my flannel sheets. ilu flannel sheets T_T ♥. They're so warm and cozy and make me not want to roll out of bed. Unfortunately, they also make me have kind of static-y hair. Bleh. It's the price I pay to stay warm, I guess.

So yes, it is overcast and rainy and windy and cold, and will likely stay this way for Turkey Day. When relatives are coming for dinner. Blargh.

In other news, there are things that I want to babble about in a geeky way. But I'm lazy. And cold. And can't feel my fingers and so I'm typing horribly. :x But I have such an urge to babble/rant/be meta. Like about The Walking Dead. Or maybe Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads. Or even Top Chef: Just Desserts.

Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

*rolls about*

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!

Or for those of you who don't celebrate: HAPPY FOURTH THURSDAY IN NOVEMBER!

And, since people tend to be endlessly curious about what gets served during holiday meals at my house, here is the menu for dinner.

Hor d'oeuvres:

~ Spinach Stuffed Mushrooms
~ Crab Rangoons
~ Chocolate Chip Cookies

Entree:

~ Roast Turkey with Cornbread Stuffing
~ Prime Rib (brought by my cousin)

Sides:

~ Loaded Mashed Potatoes
~ Wild Rice
~ Asparagus with Hollandaise Sauce
~ Mixed Lemon Herb Vegetables

Dessert:

~ Apple Pie
~ Lemon Custard Pie
~ Flan

Still deciding whether I should make crescent rolls, but I think there's enough starches in the meal. Also, I am quite proud of the fact that I don't always make things from scratch thank-you-very-much. I'm pretty much handling all the side dishes and the apple pie this year. And I'm not sure if my mom is actually putting the stuffing into the bird, or making it separate in a dish. If it's seperate, I'll probably do that, too. I ate a cookie already. My dad just had to run to the store to buy more mushrooms.

Yay food! ♥

It's true what they say, that your life flashes before your eyes before a traumatic event. Or, at the very least, time goes all wonky in respect to you. It's such a weird feeling.

explanations and what I've been doing lately )

Aside from that, not much interesting has been happening for me lately. I've been trying to get to Aoi's to play Trickster as much as I can to finish the Turkey Day Event. I've done 17 runs of the monster quest out of 25. It's pretty easy except that the spawn rate of the monsters is so slow. But I'm still hoping to get the ChocoAlmond equips (or at least the shield).

Also have a job interview tomorrow morning. \o/ I hope I do well. T__T

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!

... or to people who don't celebrate:

HAPPY THURSDAY!!

Yes, I am up early. Yes, I will be helping cook our dinner. But mostly, I want pie. And to finally pop the cork on that bottle of Chianti I've been hoarding.

And we can all pretend my icon has something to do with food.

I have been awake for... two hours! Practically. A half hour here and there doesn't matter much, right?

Anyway, the brownies I need for the base of my trifle are done and cooling. Once they're cool enough, I get to cut them into 1-inch cubes. >_>;; Right. Then make up the filling for the layers and put it all together.

I used the brownie baking to warm up the oven, so now the turkey is in. It gets to roast for an hour, then I have to flip that bitch over for the other two. Side dishes like wild rice and the veggies and such will be cooked closer to serving time so they don't get cold.

Need to shower eventually, so I don't smell like turkey. And figure out what to wear. D:

EDIT...

Mom is home and took over some of the cooking. She's making the special soup. I finished making the trifle and now it's in the fridge to set. I even washed up the dishes from cooking.

Now I get to relax a bit, read: I get to take my shower and figure out what the hell to wear. Then go back to the kitchen, and fix up the side dishes while mom cleans up and gets dressed. Dad is utterly useless. :P

RE-EDIT...

This is the trifle I made, but it doesn't look like the picture. >_>;; Chocolate Passion Bowl.

EDIT'S THIRD COUSIN...

*flops over and digests all the food*
*and mimosas*

EDIT IS YONDAIME...

*continues to pick at leftovers*
*and mimosas*
